For people who are raising day old chicks in Winter, we are getting extremely cold nights and you need to adjust your brooders according to night temps. What you get away with in Spring Summer will not work this time of year. I would suggest you use 150 w globe, set very low 15cm from base of brooder, keep your brooders in a stable temp room, stay away from heating plates this time of year, just find them not warm enough especially for Bantams with small body weight just can not stay warm enough. Good idea to cover hot end of your brooder at night to ensure heat stays in, but as same time giving birds a cold end to brooder to cool as required. You can raise babies this time of year as long as you take all the precautions. Happy Babies is ultimate aim.
