A puppy who can’t settle doesn’t always need more exercise. Sometimes they need less going on.

Less movement.
Less access to everything.
Less opportunity to make poor decisions.

When we create a calm space for them to pause, we’re not being unfair or boring. We’re helping them slow down.

Rest is part of training. 🙌🏽

While walks are important, dogs also need opportunities to use their brain, explore, sniff, problem solve and engage in natural behaviours.

Mental activity can help reduce frustration, support calmness and give your dog an appropriate outlet for their energy.

Sometimes, it’s not about doing more. It’s about finding the right activity for what they need 🫶🏼

Fearful dogs can’t learn when they’re overwhelmed.

If your dog is scared, worried, or stressed, training is about making things easier for them.

That might mean increasing distance from the trigger, reducing distractions, changing the environment, or lowering the expectations of what we’re asking them to do.

Progress comes from working at your dog’s pace, not pushing them past their comfort zone just to try and get results ⭐️⭐️⭐️🫶🏼

Treats aren’t bribery.
They’re information.

When we reward behaviours we like, we’re helping dogs understand what works, and what earns reinforcement. That’s how learning happens. 🙌🏽

Crate training isn’t all what you think it is.

It’s about giving them a safe space to rest, reset, and learn that being alone is okay.

A crate can help with:

⭐️ safety at home when you can’t fully supervise
⭐️ preventing puppies from getting up to mischief
⭐️ structured naps and rest time
⭐️ building independence and self settling
⭐️ creating calm habits from the beginning
⭐️ supporting travel, vet stays, grooming, and recovery

Puppies don’t always know when they need a nap.
Sometimes they need us to guide them into rest which is vital for their development.

Go slow, keep it positive, and build the crate as a place your puppy can trust. 🐾🐾

If you want your dog to settle at a cafe or walk calmly past distractions, those skills need to be built first in easier environments.

⭐️Start at home.
⭐️Practise when it’s quiet.
⭐️Reward the small wins.
⭐️Then slowly add more distractions.

Behaviour change doesn’t come from one session or one location. It comes from repetition, consistency, and helping your dog understand what to do before expecting it in the hardest moments.

Small daily practice is what creates real progress.
