One year ago, we took Duke to meet his new family after a heartbreaking start to his year. We found him in a distressed mental and physical state after his owner sadly passed away. He then spent 10 days in a welfare facility while we desperately searched for the right home for him - a promise I had made to his owner just weeks earlier, never imagining how things would then unfold.

Today they’re celebrating their one year anniversary together - and Duke is absolutely thriving.

There have been challenges along the way, but he has settled beyond anything we could have imagined or hoped for. Watching him flourish has brought so much comfort and healing, and this past year has reminded me why the hard parts of this work matter so much.

We couldn’t be more grateful to his beautiful new family ❤️‍🩹
