Working on your dogโ€™s muscle strength and coordination is just as important as working on your own!

Ask them to lift a front limb, engage their stabilising muscles and hold that balance. Each rep helps build strength, improve posture, and reduce the risk of injury ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

๐ŸŒ€ Great for core control
๐Ÿฆด Supports joint health
๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ Builds confidence & stability

Did you know that the skeleton is still in the development stage for the first 1-2 years of life depending on breed and size. So in order to set our young dogs up for sucess, we do need to think about the frequency and intensity of activities they do.

A variety of movement is helpful. However, immature muscles fatigue quickly so its important to not let puppies exercise beyond their point fatigue as thats when they can over do things.

Rest is important to let their muscles recover from activity. And recharged muscles will provide better support to the joints.

We know it can be tough and sometimes owners lean towards "Tiring a dog out" but itโ€™s so worth it to be mindful of this now.

๐Ÿ’› Proactive Care ๐Ÿ’›

We use hydrotherapy as a proactive treatment for dogs with mild luxating patella. It helps strengthen limbs, improve joint stability and reduce discomfort.

At TDWC, our mission is to support long-term mobility and quality of life for every patient. By staying ahead with proactive care, we help dogs age gracefully and comfortably ๐Ÿ’œ

Letโ€™s talk about the Quads....

If your dog has osteoarthritis, luxating patellas, a cruciate injury, or any joint issues in their back legs, these muscles could get tight and sore.

The quadriceps play a huge role in moving your dogโ€™s knees and hips, and when theyโ€™re weak, tight, or painful, it can lead to discomfort and pain ๐Ÿ˜–

At the centre, we see a lot of cruciate ligament injuries and we want to help you avoid them if possible.

The cruciate ligament helps stabilize the knee joint, and injuries to it can be very painful and debilitating.

To help prevent these types of injuries, consider these tips:

๐Ÿถ Keep your dog lean to reduce stress on their joints
๐Ÿถ Exercise them appropriately, with activities that support joint health
๐Ÿถ Adjust activity as they age to prevent overload

We hope this makes you think differently about your dogโ€™s knees.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Want strong limbs? ๐Ÿ• ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

Try this.....

One of my all-time favorite exercises for strengthening the forelimb muscles in dogs especially the triceps!

Why the triceps? ๐Ÿค” Well, this muscle is activated every time your dog moves their elbow joint and it's a key area thatโ€™s prone to degenerative changes over time. So keeping the triceps strong is super important for overall health and mobility.

Time to get your dog Tricep Dipping, a perfect home workout for keeping them strong and fit ๐Ÿพ โค๏ธ ๐Ÿพ

Save this one for later and add it to your pupโ€™s fitness routine! โœŒ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜Ž

๐Ÿšดโ€โ™€๏ธ Bicycle Movements ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™€๏ธ

Check out these passive exercises in action! ๐Ÿ‘€

In these bicycle-like motions, we gently move the dog's leg through its natural range to help restore mobility post-surgery. These exercises are crucial in reconnecting the brain, spinal cord, and legs especially after a neurological injury but also useful after orthopaedic surgery.

As we move through each cycle, we focus on the hip and knee making sure everything moves as smoothly as possible. We keep a close eye on any stiffness or rigidity, which can tell us a lot about the healing process.

These exercises are a game-changer in the rehab world, helping dogs relearn how to walk and rebuild strength after injury โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน ๐Ÿพ

Strength training isnโ€™t just for humans-itโ€™s a fantastic way to prevent the onset and slow the progression of joint disease in dogs too!

By strengthening the muscles around key joints, you can help prolong stability and mobility enabling your dog to move comfortably well into their senior years ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ
