End Breed Specific Legislation in Victoria, Australia

End Breed Specific Legislation in Victoria, Australia To END Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) in Victoria and Australia and make the Individual dog owner Responsible ! It simply DOES NOT WORK .

BSL is a public safety failure, expensive and difficult to Implement . Most importantly it does not improve dog bite/attack statistics ! I have done a lot more looking into of this problem of BSL in our country and across the world since i first started this sight about a year and a half ago. BSL is a knee-jerk reaction to try and decrease dog attacks . The Primary Reason that BSL is implemented i

s to Decrease Bite/attack Statistics in our community. BSL has Failed to do this where ever and when ever it was implemented. All it has done is lead to harmless canines being put down (murdered) and families leaft grieving the loss of a innocent animal. Not One of the major Authorities in the field of animal behavior and rescue backs Breeds Specific Legislation. Both the AVA (Australian Veterinary Association) And the RSPCA are calling for the Government to end BSL Now ! Further more , it takes away resources and man power from the real issue of educating the public and making The owners responsible for their pets actions . THIS LAW NEEDS TO BE CHANGED AND NOW ...
Bobo, Lennox, Wicca, Bear and Kooda + many more unknown, were just some of the dogs that have been destroyed for nothing more than being being born a certain Breed (American Pit Bull Terrier , or APBT Cross) .Some cases dogs have no pitbull in them at all ! Even DNA evidence has been rejected by VCAT! There is just no rhyme or reason to this legislation !
***WHAT YOU CAN DO ???*** Suggested campaign – TARGET All councils pre – elections (October 2012)
For ALL Victorian Voters
Remember it is LOCAL GOVERNMENT (council) who enforce the bulk of matters which concern us all – pet registration, pounds/shelters, rescue/re-homing, back yard breeding, Puppy Factories (legal and not legal), Pet Shops, BSL etc. Most LOCAL GOVERNMENT councils have FAILED dismally. In October this year elections for Councilors for 78 of Victoria's 79 Victorian Local Government take place. Most will be conducted by postal voting. Councilors are elected for a FOUR (4) year term. Check out who is running in your council shire and get ANIMALS (your family pets) on the Agenda – NOW is the time to do this. http://www.vec.vic.gov.au/Current/CouncilElections.html
Can use the existing VEC website which already has all councils listed – people can find alphabetically and then each council profile has a link to each council website where people can find contact details. Local council profiles

This is the AVA's stance on Breed Specific Legislation . Maybe Doc Sam Kovac needs to read this ...

Legislation to prevent dog bites and to manage aggressive dogs should focus on the individual dog and the owner not the breed. Breed-specific legislation for dog bite prevention has failed to reduce the frequency of dog bites both in Australia and overseas.

Greencross Vet show that Breed Specific Legislation is not dead . Really ?

THIS PETITION IS CLOSING.

These are the names and faces of just a few of the victims of our pound and shelter system. None of these cats or dogs had an untreatable condition when they were killed - and all had willing adopters, rescue groups, or foster carers ready to take them in.

Every year, somewhere between 100,000 and 250,000 cats and dogs like these are killed in pounds and shelters across Australia. The exact figure is impossible to calculate, because in most states transparent euthanasia reporting is not mandatory.

For the vast majority of these creatures, we will never know their names or faces. They are just a number. The system is broken and we need to fix it. Unless something changes, the convenience killing will never end.

This petition demands transparency. We are asking for mandatory reporting and for it to be illegal to kill an animal when there is another option available (ie a rescue group).

There are just hours left before this petition closes - let's get as many signatures as we can before Andy Meddick MP takes it to Parliament next week. It is the largest e-petition EVER in Victoria.

If you love cats or dogs and want to do ONE thing to help them today, please sign (Victorians only). And then, please SHARE. Share with your friends, family, colleagues, and Facebook groups.

Scroll ALL the way to the bottom where it says "Click here to sign". It is Petition 180:
