Ella's Cancer Surgery Journey

Ella's Cancer Surgery Journey My name is Carley Jack and this page is dedicated to my dog Ella and her Cancer Surgery Journey. The next day I took it apon myself to get a second opinion..

Ella is mine & Brendan's 11year old American Bulldog cross Mastiff.. She is the most adorable, loveable & loyal dog anyone could of ever hoped for...
She has been there for me through the hardest times of my life during these times she would not leave my side & she has been Brendan's best friend throughout everything over the years.. A few years ago we were told she had cruciate ligament damage &

she would need to be put down...
Thankfully Brendan found a vet that wanted to help & give her quality of life.. I'd enquired about pet insurance but due to her existing ailments nothing to do with her hips, legs or lower back would be covered.. As the years past she has been happy, healthy & full of energy....
Unfortunately 9 weeks ago she began to limp, this wasn't unusual as she has had the occasional limp due to her running around/playing & not cooling down properly.. We took her to her vet & for 9 weeks we did as the vet said, get her back on her cartrophen injections (zydex) & her non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs plus we were taking her to hydrotherapy... we also updated the vet on any changes to her leg...
At no point did the vet seem overly worried or too urgent to get more tests even though Ella was barely improving... even after she had fallen & bitten her tongue & had a extreme amount of blood loss (1 week ago).. We had taken Ella back to her vet to get full blood tests done.. I received the phone call to bring her in the following day but things looked good as there were no signs of poisoning so it was just a check up on her leg...
Once the vet had seen Ella he asked to do xrays, as I was there I seen what I was dreading, what no human nor animal ower ever wants to hear.. He was quite sure Ella had bone cancer (Osteosarcoma) in her sore leg.. I was devastated not only from what the vet had told me but I didn't bring anyone with me... As I left the vet in tears I pulled into the nearest service station to get a drink & compose myself.. As I was waiting the driver in front proceeded to reverse into the front of my car & caused extensive damage (I'm fully insured so luckily this is no issue) it was just an added stress to an already stressful situation...
Once I had gotten back to Brendan's I had to break the terrible news to him that his beloved Ella had cancer.. The vet had told us to wait 3-4 weeks for the cancer to fully show up.. My mother's dog had also had a form of cancer & went to a specialist vet, Wilma is still going strong 2 years later.. SouthPaws in Moorabbin is where I took her. As soon as Ella walked in the vet (Dr Charles K***z) says "hi baby girl" & as he assessed her he was kissing her head & comforting her.. I was so happy that Charles was showing our girl as much love as we do.. He proceeded to explain that he feels that there is a tumor at the top of her femur & he wanted to book her in asap for a CT scan.. I went & explained everything to Brendan & booked her in for the following day.. My father was amazing with it all & allowed me to use his credit card to pay the $1487 & get the scan done (which we need to repay)
Myself & Brendan went to talk with Charles after Ella had come out of anesthetic.. Charles then showed us Ella's CT scan pictures which broke both of our hearts.. The tumor had nearly dissolved the top of her femur & she also has is further down her leg but this was the primary location & that her heart & lungs were clear.. We asked about all aspects of surgery/amputation, negative & positive & took Ella's back to Brendan's to discuss options & make a decision.. Ella is still a happy & healthy dog except for her hind leg & I think we both knew that there was only one option & that is for surgery.. As Charles said she is currently moving as a 3 legged dog so she will easily ajust...
The surgery is booked in for 9am Monday 8th of August.. (for surgery/amputation & 4 days of chemo $8000 not including pathology or medications)
I never thought I would need to do this but I'm asking for your help, your support & to get our baby girl Ella back to being herself.. Whether is be 20 cents or $5 every little bit helps.. I will be putting my tax refund towards repaying my father so there is $6500 (estimate remaining) that needs to be paid...

I don't know what else to say or how to thank those who donate except for I have always helped everyone that I can & always try to better people's lives so I'm asking please assist us in giving Ella quality of life & letting her live her life without pain...
You are more than welcome to ask any questions...
Many thanks Carley & Brendan

Hi all....
After a very emotional & hard 2016,
I'm wanting to start creating/making wooden name plates/wall art for kids, animals & adults etc.
This is something to keep myself occupied & fill my free time.. it's also quite relaxing to do..
Each piece is hand made, painted & individually crafted to suit your needs (colours, themes etc) & takes between 5 - 12 hours to create (plus time if I need to get specific items)
I'm unsure of pricing as yet as they were made as presents for family & friends.
But was thinking from $30 to $120 (depending on size/detail)
Please comment or inbox me with any questions or if you would like to see some of my previous work.. many thanks Carley Jack πŸ’›

To all Ella’s family, friends & supporters..
It is with a great sadness & a heavy heart to have to break this heart wrenching news so close to Christmas.
But we had a vet visit on Wednesday & unfortunately the Osteosarcoma has metastasised (grown) into Ella's lungs & they're unable to prolong her life with medications or surgery..
Her strong heart & body wasn't able to recover from this..
We only had limited time with our precious baby girl.. but every day, hour & minute was worth it...
Ella is & always will be my gorgeous baby girl, the strength & courage she has shown me over the years will help ease the pain of her loss with time but she will never leave my mind or that special place in my heart.
I want to thank everyone who has donated, supported & been there for us through Ella's Cancer Journey, we would not have gotten this far without you..
Unfortunately Ella's Journey come to an end last night, she is no longer in pain or suffering & is now at peace. It is the hardest thing to have to go through but it brings me some happiness & joy when I realise how many lives Ella has touched, how many people she's made laugh & how much love she has given to us all..
Please remember Ella for her gorgeous smile, her love for all, her inner strength & her loyalty...
I'm privileged to have had her in mine & Brendan's life...
If I could ask one thing of each of you, Ella absolutely loved McDonald's chicken nuggets, so please go buy a few & share them with your beloved pet or just yourself & use this time to remember how much Ella enjoyed her life...
We will be unreachable for a while & I hope you understand.
Once again thank you for making mine, Brendan's & Ella's life easier over the past 4 months...
I will be leaving Ella's Go Fund Me page open for a while out of respect & remembrance for her..
Much love always & forever Ella's mummy Carley Jack πŸ’› xx

To everyone my apology for the lack of updates.
It's been a stressful 2 weeks..
Ella has had a hard few weeks also..
Her arthritis medication (Meloxicam) may have started to cause gastrointestinal ulcers..
Also I had found multiple lumps over her body that had appeared very quickly.
These lumps were aspirated to get cells & these were sent to the pathologist.
The results came back as not a definitive result for cancer but this can't be ruled out..
The cells are multiplying in such a way that may be caused by trauma (dog fight etc) which hasn't happened..
Ella will need either or both a chest xray & CT scan which is close to $1500..
This will determine how deep the lumps are in her body & if cancer has spread to her lungs..
Which will inevitably determine what choices we have for Ella and to try & give her quality of life or if it is her time..
Please share with family & friends.
Thank you for your ongoing support..

I've got some great news!
Ella had another post op vet appointment yesterday & all is well..
Her neutrophils (white blood cells) are back to normal levels...
Her seroma (build up of fluid) has been absorbing back into her body like it should...
She no longer need to be on gabapentin (nerve blocker pain killer) & no more antibiotics..
It's all love, cuddles & adventures from here on in...

Ella had her 2nd post surgery check up at the vet...
She had her blood test done & her neutrophils (white blood cells) are slightly lower than last week, they're not to worried as Ella has a seroma (build up of fluid) common after major surgery.. also because she is more active & sleeps on her wound site...This will heal itself but will continue to weep excess fluid.. so I've got a few more nights of hourly dressing changes... She has been put on antibiotics to reduce any chance of infection but other than that the vet was extremely pleased with how she's healing & her recovery overall.. much love Ella's mummy Carley Jack πŸ’› xx

Ella was a too tired to even take her jacket off after her walk & a trip back to the vet because she's opened up a small part of her wound... but all is good.. she just has to wear her bucket now when she's by herself..
Back to the vet Monday for another blood test & check up..
