In the mid 1800s, Dandenong was an overnight stopping point for passengers travelling from Melbourne to Gippsland, a journey that could take over 24 hours on horseback or by carriage.

Taken over a hundred years later, this 1967 image makes us reflect on the rural origins of our region.

The results are in! We were the top-performing council in the 2025 Metropolis Community Satisfaction Survey, achieving the highest satisfaction survey results out of 19 councils. 👏

The average satisfaction with facilities and services was 8.1, which was 3% higher than the metropolitan average and 7% higher than the southeastern region. Areas that scored highly include community services, communication, planning and building, and recreation and culture.

We're taking applications for food vendors, market stallholders, community organisations and corporate groups to participate in the day.

Medium Grants Program - Offers one-off grants of up to $10,000 to eligible community groups, non-profit community organisations and individual artists. Funding is available for projects in:

Large Grants Program - Provides eligible non-profit organisations up to $80,000 per year for two years to support:
✍️ Capacity-building of vital local services
✍️ Projects aligned with Council’s strategic plans
✍️ Initiatives that deliver social and economic benefits to the community

From Monday 4 August, you’re invited to kick back, explore the new playground, view the community spaces, study or simply get lost in a good book at the new Keysborough Community Hub.

With comfy spaces to gather and meet, study nooks and more than 3000 colourful junior books, bestsellers and glossy mags to choose from, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Earlier this year we asked for your feedback on the Alex Wilkie Nature Reserve and Sense Trail upgrade.

There was strong support in upgrading the reserves facilities, including more water resources for wildlife, water-based nature play, increased opening hours and more. We've used your feedback to create a final concept plan.

We're proposing to sell the property at 275 Lonsdale Street, Dandenong. The property was purchased by Council in 2019 with plans to demolish the building and improve pedestrian access in central Dandenong.

With the Vanity Lane project now ceased, we're proposing the sale of this property and want your feedback.

Transport Victoria are upgrading the Stud Road and Mcfees Road intersection in Dandenong North to improve safety and access for drivers, pedestrians and bike riders.

Major works for this project will start in early August. There will be some traffic changes during this time, including the temporary closure of Mcfees Road at the Stud Road intersection.

Dandenong fire brigade was established in 1894, when they had a wooden building on the corner of Walker and Robinson streets.

Today’s photo, Graham Southam captured this photograph in 1973 of a fireman from Dandenong demonstrating how to use a truck mounted fire hose.
