😢 Folks,
It's with great sadness I relay the news; Natalie lost her dearest girl Ember this morning.
I first met Ember and Nat in January 2019 when they jumped onto the PFA community training wagon. As you can all appreciate, Ember has been an incredibly HUGE part of Nat's life and identity.
I and many others will miss Ember greatly.
Now it's time for Nat to grieve, take time, ride it out with all the tears that will flow, usually at the most inappropriate times 🤧

For the Bestest Girl – Ember

Golden fur and gleaming eyes,
A cheeky grin that won the prize.
She bounded hearts from coast to coast,
Ember, a soul we cherished most.
She climbed each stair with fearless pride,
With purpose trotting by your side.
Each step she took, a cause she’d lift,
Her climbs, a heartfelt, giving gift.
She helped raise hope, and funds, and cheer,
With wagging tail and spirit clear.
A friend to all, a partner true,
The world felt brighter just with you.
But oh, the bond, the daily thread,
The way you leaned your gentle head.
No one will miss her more, it’s true,
Than her human - her heart, her view.
Run free now Ember, skies above,
Forever held in deepest love.

Week 1 of 4: Puppy Power in Action!🥰

Our youngest pups (10–20 weeks old) are off to a flying start; learning how to focus, build confidence, and engage with their handlers in new and distracting environments.

This critical socialisation window is all about safe, positive environmental exposure not just play with other dogs. Think different surfaces, sounds, people, objects, and experiences that help shape calm, resilient adult dogs.

Our handlers are also learning how to communicate clearly and build strong foundations through fun, reward-based training.

🌺

Today on ANZAC Day, we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of all Australian and New Zealand soldiers—past and present—who have served our countries. We also pay tribute to the many animals who stood alongside them: the dogs, horses, donkeys, and pigeons who gave so much, often without recognition. Lest we forget

A Remarkable Collaboration: Engineering Assistance for Assistance Dog trainers.

Paws for Assistance Dog Training, based in Glenroy Victoria, is thrilled to share a heartwarming success story that highlights the spirit of collaboration and ingenuity within our local Strathmore Men's Shed (SMS).

In a wonderful display of community support, Gerry, a talented member of SMS has recently engineered an innovative dog training food dispenser to aid individuals with disabilities who are training their own assistance dogs under the Paws for Assistance training program.

The collaboration began when Paws for Assistance identified a need for a practical solution to support those with compromised limb movement during the crucial process of training their own assistance dog. Recognising the potential impact of such a project, Gerry stepped forward with his engineering skills and a desire to make a difference.

Working closely with Paws for Assistance, Gerry designed and crafted a custom food dispenser that can be easily attached to wheelchairs. The dispenser facilitates the efficient and timely delivery of dog training food, ensuring that individuals with disabilities can effectively train their assistance dogs without the hindrance of compromised body movement or finger dexterity.

The beauty of this project lies not only in the technical prowess demonstrated by Gerry but also in the compassion and community spirit that underpins the entire endeavor. The Strathmore Men’s Shed continues to be a place where skills, ideas, and goodwill converge to create solutions that enhance the lives of those within and beyond the community.
Paws for Assistance extends a heartfelt thanks to Gerry for his remarkable contribution and partnership. Together, we are making a positive impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities and their assistance dogs, fostering a community that truly cares.

*The device on the wheelchair was the original prototype.
