When you call us because your pet isnโt quite themselves, our reception team may ask you a few questions before booking your appointment. Some might seem a little strange โ but thereโs a reason behind them!
One question you may hear is: **โ๐พ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐โ๐ ๐๐๐๐?
Your petโs gum colour can give us some important clues about their circulation, oxygen levels and overall health.
Generally what we like to see!
Can indicate reduced circulation, blood loss, anaemia or other concerns.
May be a sign of jaundice and can be associated with liver, blood or other health problems.
Can indicate low oxygen levels and should be treated as an emergency.
Can be associated with overheating, inflammation, toxins or other serious conditions.
Can indicate severe circulation problems, shock, blood loss or anaemia and is an emergency.

Tell our reception team what you see - it can help our team assess how urgently your pet needs to be seen.
Of course, gum colour is only one piece of the puzzle. Our reception team will ask a range of questions to help our veterinary team triage your pet appropriately.
So next time we ask, *โWhat colour are their gums?โ* - youโll know why!
