🐶 WHAT ARE A**L GLANDS?
And why do so many dogs need them expressed?

💩 What are a**l glands?

Dogs have two small glands located on either side of the a**s, commonly called a**l glands or a**l sacs.

These glands produce a strong, unique-smelling fluid that is naturally released when a dog passes stool.

🌿 What were they originally for?

In the wild, this secretion played an important role in scent marking and communication.

The unique scent helped dogs leave information about themselves and communicate with other dogs.

🏠 So why can’t many dogs release them naturally today?

Modern dogs live very different lives from their wild ancestors.

Many are fully domesticated and may have much less opportunity to develop or practise natural behaviours. Some dogs may also have never learned these behaviours from their mother or other dogs when they were young.

As a result, many pet dogs today do not effectively empty their a**l glands on their own.

⏰ How often should they be expressed?

For many dogs, we recommend having their a**l glands checked and expressed approximately every 2–3 months to help prevent excessive build-up.

Some dogs may need it more often, while others may need it less frequently.

Regular care can help reduce the risk of the glands becoming overly full, thickened, impacted, or developing inflammation and infection.

🚨 What can happen if they keep building up?

If the glands are not emptying properly, you may notice:

• 🛷 Scooting their bottom on the floor
• 👅 Excessive licking around the a**s
• 👃 A strong, unpleasant smell
• 😣 Discomfort when sitting or passing stool
• 🔴 Swelling or inflammation
• 🦠 Infection or even an abscess in more severe cases

❤️ Don’t wait until your dog is uncomfortable.

Regular checking and appropriate expression can be an important part of your dog’s routine grooming and hygiene care.

🐾 Every dog is different — the right grooming routine should be based on your dog’s individual needs.

🐶🐱 Did you know your pet may need Conditioner after Shampoo?

Many pet owners think that using Shampoo is enough to get their dog or cat clean.

But Shampoo is mainly for cleansing — it removes dirt, excess oil, and buildup from the skin and coat.

At the same time, it can also remove some of the skin’s natural sebum (oil), which plays an important role in maintaining the skin barrier and keeping the coat naturally soft and conditioned.

✨ That’s where Conditioner comes in!

Conditioner helps restore softness and slip to the coat after cleansing. It can help:

🤍 Reduce dryness and roughness
🤍 Improve coat softness and smoothness
🤍 Make brushing and combing easier
🤍 Reduce tangles and matting
🤍 Improve coat manageability and shine

This is especially important for long-haired, curly, or easily tangled coats.

Think of it like your own hair:

🧴 Shampoo = Cleansing
✨ Conditioner = Care & Conditioning

A professional bath is not just about getting your pet “clean”.

It’s about cleansing the skin while caring for the skin barrier and coat afterwards. 🐾

Because healthy skin = a healthier, softer and more beautiful coat. 🤍

✨ Dou Dou’s Dead Sea Mud SPA ✨🐶🛁

A lot of people think a pet SPA is simply about making our furry friends feel relaxed and pampered. 💕
But actually, SPA care can do so much more!

This is Dou Dou’s full Dead Sea Mud SPA experience 🌿

🫧 Deep cleansing – helps remove dirt, excess oil and buildup from the skin
✨ Supports healthier skin – helps maintain a clean and balanced skin environment
🐾 Helps improve skin condition – regular care can be beneficial for pets with certain skin concerns

But here’s the important part… 👀

SPA is not a one-time treatment with instant results.
Think of it more like a skincare routine for your pet! 🤍

For noticeable improvement, we generally recommend a course of around 4–6 treatments, approximately every 3 weeks, depending on your pet’s individual skin condition.

With consistent care, you may gradually notice:

✨ Cleaner, healthier-looking skin
✨ Better oil balance
✨ Softer, healthier coat
✨ Improved overall skin condition

From soaking and massaging with the Dead Sea Mud, to rinsing, drying and finishing the groom — Dou Dou enjoyed the full SPA experience from start to finish! 🥰🛁

Healthy skin takes time, consistency and care. 🐾🤍

🦷✨ Churro’s Anesthesia-Free Dental Cleaning — Before & After ✨🦷

Churro was such a brave boy! 🥹🤍
Look at the difference before and after his dental cleaning — so much cleaner and fresher! ✨

Many pet parents ask us why we offer anesthesia-free dental cleaning.

While anesthesia is an important and necessary part of many veterinary dental procedures, anesthesia does carry certain risks. That’s why we believe getting your pet comfortable with regular dental care from a young age can be beneficial. 🐾

Starting early can help your pet become less resistant to dental cleaning. And as they get older, if anesthesia becomes less suitable for them, having them already familiar with regular dental care means there may still be an option to help maintain their oral hygiene without undergoing anesthesia simply for routine cleaning. 🤍

🦷 Regular dental care is key!

We generally recommend dental cleaning around every 6 months, rather than waiting until heavy tartar has built up.

When tartar is allowed to accumulate for a long time, it can contribute to gum irritation and periodontal problems. In more advanced cases, the supporting tissues around the teeth can be damaged, potentially affecting tooth stability.

So instead of waiting until the tartar becomes severe, start early and keep up with regular dental care. 🐶✨

A little maintenance today can make a big difference to your pet’s oral health in the long run. 💕

Well done, Churro! You were such a brave boy! 🥰👏🏻
