We all love giving our dogs big hugs, kisses, and excited chatter before we walk out the door. But here’s the catch: All that affection amps them up… only for you to leave them alone.
This can make goodbyes stressful and actually build up separation anxiety over time.
The trick? Keep goodbyes (and hellos!) calm and low-key.
• Leave out the door calmly with a word or phrase that means you’re leaving.
• Save the affection for when your dog is settled and calm.
• Greet them the same way you left them — relaxed, steady, reassuring.
Your dog learns that comings and goings are no big deal — and that creates a calmer, happier pup.
Does your dog go wild when you come home?
