What is a Therapy Dog?
Therapy dogs perform completely different roles from service dogs. Their involvement aims to provide psychological or physiological therapy to individuals other than their handlers. Therapy Dogs have stable temperaments and friendly, easy-going personalities. Typically, the therapy sessions are carried out in hospitals, kindas, schools, day care centres, homes, assisted living communities, nursing homes and more. Unlike service dogs, therapy dogs are encouraged to interact with a variety of people while they are on-duty including petting and rewarding the therapy dog with a treat.

Their presence can give withdrawn children the confidence to read out loud, hesitant patients motivation to participate in physical rehabilitation therapy and grieving spouses a new avenue for unconditional love. In some cases, a therapy dog will work in an establishment exclusively, such as a psychotherapy practice with multiple clients whose needs develop over time.

Luv a Dog assisted animal therapy sessions are designed to create a feeling of relaxation and joy.

Dog Therapy sessions can be particularly helpful to those who have experienced levels of trauma that make it hard for them to trust others and talk about their experiences. Therapy dogs are a source of attention and affection, which creates an uncomplicated bond of joy and attachment that can be talked about, looked forward to and remembered for all the right reasons.

Spending time with pets is linked to fewer visits to the doctor and reduced medication intake, as well as lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Elderly people who take part in pet therapy also recover quicker from illness and surgery, deal with stressful situations better, and have a reduced risk of heart disease.
