Have you thought of adding yogurt to your doggos diet?

My girls
love licking it straight from a spoon as a treat or i add it to their meal - starting with around a teaspoon, working your way up to 1-2 tablespoons daily can also aid to less gunk in their eye area, as well as numerous other benefits.

There are a lot of different benefits that are associated with adding yogurt to your dog’s diet, as it will give them probiotics and nutrition. For instance, yogurt is an excellent calcium source. However, you do need to keep away from sweetened yogurts; plain yogurts are a must with no added extras.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the main benefits of yogurts for dogs in further detail:

Provide Calcium To Your Pup
One of the main reasons why you should consider giving your dog yogurt is because yogurt is the most significant calcium source for pups. There is approximately 450 mg of calcium per one cup of yogurt. Depending on the size of your dog, you are only going to need to give your dog one or two spoonfuls for them to enjoy their required daily quantity of calcium.
An Excellent Probiotic For Their Gut
Probiotic yogurts are not only safe for humans, but they are safe for dogs as well. This is beneficial because it means that a healthy gut is promoted. If that was not enough, the probiotics found in yogurts can help your dog to fight yeast infections, which can result in ear and skin problems. Furthermore, probiotics may help your dog’s body to absorb nutrients and boost immunity.
High in Protein
Aside from the benefits that we have mentioned so far, yogurts are also high in protein. Protein is very important for your dog’s diet. In fact, when it comes to giving your dog the protein they need, Greek yogurt is an even better choice when compared with regular yogurt.
Easy Additive For Increased Nutrition To Meals

Finally, another reason why you should consider adding yogurt to your dog’s diet is that it can help to increase the nutrition your dog has with every meal. When serving your dog a meal, adding some yogurt will provide the protein and calcium they need, as well as probiotics to aid the digestive system. Essentially, you are making sure your dog gets plenty of the good stuff whenever they eat!

In order for your dog to experience all of the benefits that we have mentioned above, you will need to choose yogurt with care. Make sure that you do not serve your dog a yogurt with added sugars, as they are not healthy for dogs, nor humans for that matter! It is also imperative that there are not any artificial sweeteners present, as the likes of xylitol can be toxic for dogs. In addition to this, we recommend that you search for a plain type of yogurt that features many live cultures, for instance, a plain, Greek-style yogurt. This type of yogurt is a good choice because the levels of lactose are lower than regular yogurt.

** start with a teaspoon, working up to 1 tablespoon for small dogs and 2 tablespoons for medium sized dogs.

Is Garlic Safe for Dogs?

Can dogs eat garlic?
Yes, they can in extreme moderation, but it’s not something you should ever give them on purpose.

If your dog eats a bite of chicken seasoned with garlic or gets ahold of a piece of garlic bread, they will be completely fine.
Dogs need to consume around 15–30 grams of fresh garlic per kilogram of body weight to be at risk for serious illness. To put this into perspective, a very small dog—like a 6 lb Chihuahua—would need to eat 40–80 grams of garlic to be at risk for serious toxicosis. That’s approximately 8–16 whole cloves of garlic!
Here’s a quick rundown of how much garlic your dog would need to eat in order to be at risk of toxicosis.
Dog Weight: Garlic grams: Cloves:

6lbs. 40-80 g. 8-16
10 lbs 67–135 g 13–27
20 lbs 135–270 g 27–54
30 lbs 204–408 g 40–81
40 lbs 270–540 g 54–108
50 lbs 330–660 g 66–132
60 lbs 405–810 g 81–162
70 lbs 476–952 g 95–190
80 lbs 543–1,086 g 110–217
90 lbs 612–1,224 g 122–244
100 lbs 680–1,360 g 136–272

* Be aware that some dogs may be more sensitive to garlic than others.

Let’s debunk this myth indeed!

**Please read in full if you would like to share your opinion, which I welcome but pay me the courtesy of reading the full story first **

I am well aware this is a topic that can be of heated debate, it doesn’t need to be and here is why.

Having bred for many years and for the most part people have been wonderful. There’s is always a minority that can be quite aggressive in their comments (not on this page, but other sites)

I welcome anyone’s opinion and you have the right to express it. Usually it’s Ill informed information that gets brought up as if somehow that is my fault and I have any control of other people decisions and choices.

This is EXACTLY what I am trying to avoid as best as possible by having my breeding program, to teach how to breed ethically and responsibly at Ruby & Milie Cavoodles Pups & Studding a site that also shares a load of free information on how to care and choose the appropriate pet for you and your family for lovers of small breeds.

I as much as anyone hate hate hate puppy farms and it breaks my heart so many animals end up at a shelter or worse mistreated in someone’s care or mistreated at all.

I like you am against the so called backyard breeders, people can be quick to jump on the band wagon prior to having all the information - rather than a large breeding company, there are people that prefer their pups come from a loving home environment, if all necessary steps have been taken such as testing, matching DNA, pup and mums welfare and choosing an appropriate stud. They have registered as a breeder and follow ethical practices, I am perfectly okay with that and do not see why people are so quick to make judgement without gathering all the facts. Agreed that if they are not following ethical practise that is not okay. Totally agree.

Many of my clients and out in the greater community where I volunteer at an animal shelter. I assist in the rehoming of animals, including fostering the animals (canines and feline) have expressed that most of the animals aren’t suited for many different reasons and their desired breed rarely comes up for adoption.

There are many different reasons as to why people make their decisions to adopt or not to adopt, all of them personal and all of them their choice.

There will always be breeding, no amount of “hate” will change that. I can’t control peoples decisions or choices, what I can do is help assist in responsible and ethical breeding practises and I am proud to do so with my ethical and responsible breeding programs and lots of free information that I provide on our FB page.

That is what will make a positive change and difference!
