The one the only Dottie!!

Age: 31/12/2024
Breed: Cattle Dog x Dachshund

This little gem has it all the personality, size, nature, smile, trainability.

Dottie arrived in our care on the 29th of July with a large prolapse almost on the ground. She received vet attention straight away and was in the care of Walker St vets for several days after she received surgery to make sure she was recovering well. Once Dottie came back to the refuge she spent a few weeks in the office being monitored closing and the area being cleaned multiple times a day to ensure she didn’t get an infection.
Dottie is now available for adoption and is looking for her perfect home!

We all have a soft spot for this little dog. Her personality is always shining through, and she is always up for a game.
Dottie is toilet trained, walks well on a lead, plays fetch, loves squeaky toys, loves the water, is good with most other dogs, good with children, men and women.

She is an extremely quick learner, in the time we’ve had Dottie in our care she has learnt how to sit, shake, beg, laydown, roll over and wait.

She is best suited to an active lifestyle as she is only 9 months old and does have a lot of energy. Every chance she gets she will jump up onto your lap to give you cuddles and kisses.

MARY NEEDS OUR HELP!

This special girl came to us a few months ago with her three puppies who were skin and bone, riddled with worms and struggling to survive. Mary was such a dedicated Mum who have her all to her pups. In turn this meant she too was struggling to thrive. Luckily they all found their way to us where they had all the medical care and love they so desperately needed.

Over the last few months they have all gained weight, confidence and have thrived due to the kind donations from our community and care of the team at the refuge.

Both pups have now found their new homes and have a very bright future. Mary however has been left behind hoping that she too can go home where she can be loved and cared for like she so deserves.

Mary has the sweetest nature, is playful and full of life. Please see below for more information about this very special girl. Maybe she could be your next best friend, given the chance.

We have recently bid farewell to two of our longterm workers, who have retired.

Yesterday, Lorrae Nicklen worked her last shift as a Manager. Lorrae has been with the Refuge for over 8 years - firstly as a cleaning volunteer, then as Assistant Treasurer on the Committee, and then finally as a Manager. She has brought a wealth of experience & historical perspective to her roles. Her love for the dogs & cats at the Refuge knows no bounds, & includes the foster-fails in her home! She will be greatly missed.

The previous week we also said goodbye to longterm volunteer, Shirley Smith. Shirley looked after the cat area & gave them the affection many of them had missed out on. Shirley was calm, efficient & reliable. She will leave a big hole.

We wish both these ladies the most wonderful retirement & trust they will still come & visit us often 🐾
