Lets talk Parvovirus
🦠 What is Parvovirus?
• Parvovirus (commonly called parvo) is a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus, mostly known for affecting dogs, especially puppies.
🐶 Canine Parvovirus (CPV)
• Who it affects: Mostly puppies (especially unvaccinated ones), but any dog can catch it.
• How it spreads: Through contact with infected faeces, contaminated surfaces, or even people’s hands, shoes, or clothing.
• What it does: Attacks rapidly dividing cells, especially in the gut and bone marrow, leading to:
• Severe vomiting
• Bloody diarrhea
• Dehydration
• Weak immune system
• Is it deadly? Yes, without treatment it can kill within days.
💉 Prevention
• Vaccinate! Puppies get a series of vaccines starting at 6–8 weeks of age.
• Avoid high-risk areas (like dog parks) until your pup is fully vaccinated.
