Snakes are out and about! 🐍

Did you know that your pet might have been bitten by a snake even though you cannot find the bite?

On most of our pets who have been bitten by a snake we do not find where they have been bitten! There are other important signs to watch for which may indicate they have been bitten by a snake. These include:

• Weakness or collapse, sometimes followed by a period of normal activity
• Dilated pupils
• Salivation, drooling, vomiting
• Paralysis/wobbliness when walking
• Heavy head
• Trouble breathing

If you see your pet playing with a snake or suspect your pet has been bitten by a snake please contact the clinic immediately on:

What is Heartworm and why do we talk about it so much? 🫀
Heartworm is a parasite called Dirofilaria immitis which is transmitted by mosquitos. 🦟
Those nasty mozzies carry baby worms from host to host in unprotected dogs. Signs of a heartworm infestation can include:
• coughing
• exercise intolerance
• weight loss
• bloated belly
• fatigue
If your dog is showing any of these signs or your canine companion has lapsed on their heartworm prevention we offer in house heartworm tests as well as an annual prevention injection from these pesky little worms. Call us on:

☎️ Mackay - 4951 3799
☎️ Walkerston - 4959 2099

Lets talk Parvovirus

🦠 What is Parvovirus?
• Parvovirus (commonly called parvo) is a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus, mostly known for affecting dogs, especially puppies.

🐶 Canine Parvovirus (CPV)
• Who it affects: Mostly puppies (especially unvaccinated ones), but any dog can catch it.
• How it spreads: Through contact with infected faeces, contaminated surfaces, or even people’s hands, shoes, or clothing.
• What it does: Attacks rapidly dividing cells, especially in the gut and bone marrow, leading to:
• Severe vomiting
• Bloody diarrhea
• Dehydration
• Weak immune system
• Is it deadly? Yes, without treatment it can kill within days.

💉 Prevention
• Vaccinate! Puppies get a series of vaccines starting at 6–8 weeks of age.
• Avoid high-risk areas (like dog parks) until your pup is fully vaccinated.
