MISSING – BIRDS – MAGRA (DERWENT VALLEY CC REGION) 21/10/2026

I was absolutely horrified to learn today that tenants in Magra deliberately released budgies, canaries and finches from an aviary when they vacated the property recently.
The real estate has been in touch with me and I will be going there tomorrow to collect the remainder of the finches that didn't leave the aviary (and since had the door closed by the real estate).
But there are still a number of budgies and canaries at large.
This is not only illegal, but very unethical as these birds do not stand a chance in the wild.
They have been provided food, water and shelter and have no concept of predator awareness and will make an easy meal for hawks, currawongs, kookaburras, quolls and other predators.
The ones that are more savvy and do survive, carry the risk of establishing a population of an introduced species, which puts local birds at risk as they compete for food and nesting space.
It is ABHORRENT behaviour, especially when finding homes for them would have been very easy, had they reached out for help.
If you see any, please contact the Tasmanian Lost Pet Register - TLPR with sightings, and if you manage to catch one please get in touch with me.

Unfortunately we have been advised by our Australian distributor that there has been changes in the manufacturing process of Nutriberries which is causing significant disruptions to the importation of Nutriberries indefinitely.

We have not been advised on expected availability date moving forward, so we do advise purchasing the varieties we currently have available while stocks last if your birds love Nutriberries.

Nutriberries are a much loved product in our store and this news is incredibly disappointing for our business. We will continue to update our customers moving forward as updates come available from our Distributor.

What a great idea! 💕
