Just after three trims on a 4 week cycle, the new hoof is growing out nicely and I can’t wait to see what a couple more months of trims will look like! It is amazing how quick you can see a change with regular hoof care!

Some of this week’s cases. I love good before and after of a trim.
A serious case of seedy toe. With a good trim and packing of blue goo and cotton balls will be on her way to being more comfortable and having a happy healthy hoof.
And a shoe removal, the beginning of the transition to barefoot. Whose owner says he is already moving better and seems more happy.

First trim for this boy in a very long time due to an injury and other circumstances. He behaved himself quite nicely and I was able to clip back all his toes and give them a good clean. He is now on a 4 week cycle to help with bringing his toes back and building his confidence with a farrier. Can’t wait to see what they look like in a couple of months.

Hey Equine Community!
I am currently studying a Certificate in Equine Hoofcare with ACEHP (https://www.australianhooftrimmers.com/) to further develop my skills as a barefoot trimmer and gain more knowledge. For my studies I am required to complete up to 6 case studies, I already have 2. So I am reaching out to see if anyone would have a horse they would be willing to allow me to do a case study on. These horses will get a price reduction for the first three trims. A trim is usually $50 per horse plus $25 for travel, the case study horses will get the trim for just $35!

To be suitable you will need to be willing to commit to regular trims (4-6 weeks) by myself for the next 10-12 months, be comfortable with me taking photos of your horse and sharing your contact details with ACEHP trainers, live in the Atherton Tablelands, Cairns, or Port Douglas regions, open to potentially making minor diet/environment changes, and include at least one of the following:
-removing shoes and transitioning them to barefoot
-laminitic (acutely or chronically foundered)
-club foot
-seedy toe
-off the track thoroughbred with chronic hoof problems
-medially/laterally imbalanced hooves
-vet consultation including x-rays
-abscessing hoof

It’s been an intense two weeks in Tasmania delving deeper into the equine hoof. Learning more about the anatomy of the hoof, nutrition, paddock practices, shoe pulling, pathologies, glueing shoes, boot fitting and lots of trimming from both live horses as well as cadavers. Plus so much more!
I am looking forward to being home and putting into practice all the things I have learnt.
Is your horse in need of a barefoot trimmer? I will be taking new clients for the start of March.
Thank you to all the amazing mentors and teachers. Now it is time to delve into assignments and case studies! As well as process all the information 😂.
