Sydney Uni Hospital has advised positive diagnosis of canine leptospirosis in areas of NSW including Tamworth.

Of the 14 cases presented, 11 were euthanised, 2 died and 1 recovered.

Dogs can get infected from stagnant water, contact with rats and urine from infected animals.

Spring is sprung, the grass is riz, Manilla is where the bower birds is! The local native, Spotted Bower bird, is a sedentary, mid-sized passerine found across broad parts of the drier habitats of eastern Australia. The species is known for its remarkable behaviours, which include bower building and decorating, courtship displays and vocal mimicry. Bower photos contributed by our nurses. Fortunately, they nest higher up in trees. Bowers are just for attracting the ladies and mating. Good luck fellas! We think you’ve done a marvellous job!

This little guy got himself in a pickle, caught up in all that churning water down at the weir. A kind member of the public fished him out and handed him in. After a check-up he was deemed in good health, perhaps a little waterlogged, but nothing a couple of days rest with a wildlife carer superhero won’t fix.
We love getting to see our amazing wildlife up close.
