A belated post due to a busy weekend for my birthday. This is Pandora, a young hen and Demon's bonded girlfriend who is also likely to have her first round in the breeding cages next season. She is cobalt, which means she has one dark factor gene on top of being blue series. Mostly she's a bit more placid and laidback, almost shy at times. A lovely little mainstay of the aviary!

Next up is Demon, or Demon Hen - who got her name when she was bought as she decided to open her own cage and send the hall into a lockdown while she was re-caught, then promptly bit the handler and bit me when transferring her. What a good start! She's a delight to watch, curious about everything new (and earning a face-full of carrot) and not afraid to let you know her displeasure if required to do something unspeakable - like move cages or waiting five minutes more for breakfast. Skyblue Demon will be hopefully raising her first nest of tiny terrors next season so watch out for those updates!

~Featured Bird Time~
Our first introduction is little Patroclus, or Patty (left in photo, alongside Achilles now deceased). He had his first successful breeding season in Spring 2022 and raised my first three babies alongside Lemon. I was pleasantly surprised with how good he was as a father compared to the other males!
For a club rung budgie boy he is quite sleek and slender and is a skybue opaline dominant-pied. Here's hoping he'll sire many more offspring as handsome as him.

Happy New Year and welcome to 2023 from Bloomin Budgerigars! So far summer has spared us the worst of her wrath and it's been cool enough for the flock to be comfortable. January is quiet resting time for birds and humans so we're doing the preventative medications to keep healthy before clubs fire up again in February and with well and truly enough time before the autumn breeding season.
I'll try and introduce you to the flock gradually as over 20 birds might be a little much at once!
