Thor isn’t just looking for a home, he’s looking for his person. 🐕❤️

Thor is a fun loving young dog with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He absolutely loves people and is always ready for an adventure, making him the perfect companion for an active family.

✅ Friendly and affectionate boy
✅ Great with other dogs
✅ Needs ongoing training and guidance
✅ High energy level

Thor has shown himself to be very respectful with other dogs while still enjoying a good play. He has lovely social skills and reads other dogs well, making him a great canine companion. Like any young dog, he is still learning and will benefit from continued training to help him become the best version of himself.

Thor is looking for an active home that is committed to continuing his training and providing him with plenty of physical exercise and mental stimulation. Due to his boisterous nature, he is not suitable for a home with very young children. With the right guidance, Thor will grow into a loyal, loving and well rounded companion.

Lucky is still waiting for someone to choose her. 🥹❤️

She may not have had the easiest start in life, but that hasn’t stopped her from showing us just how much love she has to give. Once she feels safe with you, she’s all kisses, cuddles and belly rubs — and moments like these remind us of the beautiful girl hiding behind everything she’s been through.

Lucky deserves someone who will be patient with her, believe in her and give her the time she needs to truly shine. She’s been waiting far too long for her person, and we’d love nothing more than to see her finally have the loving home she deserves. 🐾

Lucky is looking for an adult-only, single-dog home with an experienced owner who is willing to continue her training and help her build confidence.

WOW… we don’t quite know what to say. ❤️

The response to Marshall’s post has been absolutely incredible. You have well and truly shown up for our special boy. 🥹

We’ve received a number of applications overnight, and our small team will be carefully working through them this week. Thank you to every single person who has shared his story, commented, messaged us or submitted an application.

While we know many people have fallen in love with Marshall and want to give him the happy ending he deserves, we need to find the right home, not simply the first home.

Marshall is a special-needs dog, and caring for a disabled dog is a big commitment. We are ideally looking for someone with previous experience who understands the additional care, time and responsibility involved. Our standards won’t change because of the attention his story has received.

Please bear with us while we take our time. We will only be contacting applicants we believe could genuinely meet Marshall’s needs, but we are incredibly grateful for every application we have received. ❤️

A few answers to our most common questions:

🐾 Marshall is in Melbourne, Victoria and is not suitable for interstate adoption.

🐾 Meet and greets are essential, including meeting any existing dogs in the family.

🐾 Marshall is not located at our Weir Street shelter, so please don’t arrive hoping to meet him without an appointment.

And if you continue seeing Marshall advertised for a little longer, please don’t panic!

It doesn’t mean he hasn’t had interest. It simply means we’re taking our time and waiting for that perfect fit.

There is absolutely no rush. Marshall is safe, surrounded by people who adore him and receiving all the love and care he needs while he waits. ❤️

We promise to keep you all updated along the way.

Thank you for making our little man feel so incredibly loved and seen. Now we just have to find the person who can love him for the rest of his life. 🐾❤️

If you think you could be the person Marshall has been waiting for, please take the time to read his full profile and submit an adoption application below.

Yesterday was supposed to be Marshall’s adoption day.

The week before, Marshall had a meet and greet that went incredibly well. We walked away from it feeling hopeful. We genuinely thought we had found someone who saw Marshall for the gorgeous, goofy and incredibly special boy that we have all come to know and love.

So, knowing his time with us might finally be coming to an end, we planned one last special weekend for him.

We took him to our Glen Iris shelter so he could visit some of the people who have cared for and loved him throughout his journey. He went on plenty of walks around Yarrambat, spent time with his favourite people, had a bath, and we even picked out his new wardrobe ready for his next chapter.

Then Monday came.

We packed up Marshall’s belongings, got everything ready to take to his new home, put on his bow tie and waited.

And waited.

We sat with Marshall in our driveway for almost an hour, expecting his new person to arrive at any moment.

They never came.

No phone call. No text message. No explanation.

We aren’t sharing this post to shame anyone, and we certainly don’t want anyone directing anger towards the person involved. We are sharing it because, sadly, this isn’t the first time this has happened ..and Marshall isn’t the only animal it has happened to.

Our team puts an enormous amount of time and care into every adoption. We have long, thorough meet and greets. We talk openly about an animal’s personality, behaviour, medical needs and challenges. We answer questions, encourage people to take their time, and above all else, we are honest.

All we ask for in return is that same honesty.

It is okay to change your mind.

It is okay to go home after a meet and greet and realise you aren’t ready. It is okay to decide that an animal isn’t the right fit for your family. It is okay to have second thoughts.

What isn’t okay is making a commitment and simply not showing up.

Because behind every adoption appointment is an animal we are preparing for a new life. There are staff and volunteers packing belongings, organising paperwork, preparing medications and food, saying their goodbyes and getting emotionally ready to watch an animal they love finally leave for their forever home.

And sometimes, like yesterday, we are left sitting in the driveway with a beautiful boy in a bow tie who isn’t going anywhere after all.

So Marshall came back inside with us.

His belongings were unpacked. His bow tie came off. And today, we start again.

Because that is what we will always do.

We will never give up on Marshall, or any of the animals in our care. We will continue to be their home for as long as they need us, until the right person comes along and takes a chance on them.

Marshall’s person is still out there.

And until they find him, he has us. ❤️
