Murphy’s Walk & Train journey is coming to an end, but he’s ready for his next big challenge!

Yesterday’s session looked a little different. With the sun shining, I invited Murphy’s handler, Jenny, to join us so I could coach her through the skills we’ve been building together — including what to do, why it works and how to continue the training at home.

The best part? Jenny has been putting in the work, and it shows. 👏

Over the past few weeks, Murphy has made fantastic progress. He’s becoming easier to guide, quicker to refocus and much more confident around everyday distractions. That progress is a direct result of the consistency Jenny has maintained between sessions.

With his Walk & Train block now complete, Murphy is ready to take things up a level by joining our After Dark Training Club! 🌙🐾

There, we’ll build on everything he’s learned while introducing the added challenge of working around other dogs, handlers and real-world distractions.

A huge congratulations to our five Best Behaviour graduates who completed their course today! 🎉 We were missing a couple of classmates who couldn’t make it, but they were absolutely there in spirit.

And what a day to graduate! ☀️💨 The dogs and their handlers had to work through the heat AND the wind — and ohhhh, the wind! At one point, I genuinely thought little Milo was going to blow away! 😂💨🐶

Despite the challenging conditions, everyone pushed through and showed just how far they’ve come. Watching the handlers communicate with their dogs, work through distractions and put everything we’ve practised over the past four weeks into action was a wonderful way to finish the course, and exactly what Best Behaviour Foundations is all about.

I’m so proud of this group and everything you’ve achieved. You’ve worked hard, supported one another and shown such commitment to your dogs throughout the course. It’s been a pleasure watching your confidence grow, and I hope you’re all feeling as proud of yourselves as you should. 💜

👏 Big win for Dusty!

Dusty can be reactive around other dogs, so completing this circuit while other dogs were nearby practising their loose lead walking was a fantastic effort from both Dusty and his handler.

The goal isn’t for Dusty to interact with every dog he sees. It’s teaching him how to stay connected with his handler, work through distractions and make better choices even when other dogs are around.

And these skills don’t start at After Dark. 👇

In our Best Behaviour Foundations course, we build the groundwork with skills like engagement, loose lead walking, leave it, wait and place — then we can start taking those skills into more challenging, real-world environments.

This is what training is all about: building the foundations first, then learning how to use them when it actually matters.

What’s the benefit of teaching a “wait”?

Charlie did a big ol’ poo on our afternoon walk today

I already had Keller in one hand, so rather than trying to juggle two dogs and a poo bag, I put Charlie into a wait, walked over to the bin and disposed of the evidence.

And Charlie? He sat there patiently until I came back 👏

It seems like such a simple skill, but THIS is why we train.

Not for perfect obedience.
For everyday moments that are just easier because your dog understands what you’re asking.

Wait is just one of the practical, real-world skills we teach in Best Behaviour Foundations.

Boots had her first 1:1 session yesterday and what a sweet girl she is 💜

We kept things simple and worked on engagement, place training and leave it. Boots is a quick learner — she just needs clear, consistent communication to help her slow down and make better choices.

Meet Jax, a 7-month-old Border Collie whose family reached out for help with his manners, loose-lead walking, recall and confidence—particularly around getting into the car.

Today we slowed everything down and focused on building the foundations: marker words, engagement, touch and making the car a positive place. We walked around it, approached at Jax’s pace and removed the pressure to get straight in.

He started the session calm and engaged. Jax doesn’t need longer sessions; he needs short, positive ones that finish while he’s still succeeding.

I’ve got a few spots opening up over the coming weeks for our Maitland After Dark Training Club!

These small-group sessions are all about practising real-world skills around other dogs and everyday distractions, including:

🐾 Loose-lead walking
🐾 Calmness and focus
🐾 Passing other dogs
🐾 Impulse control
🐾 Building handler confidence

This isn’t a doggy social session—it’s structured training designed to help you and your dog work together in the real world.

Casual session: $45
Four-session pass: $160

A little reminder from Pharaoh and me 💜

I was trying to teach him something here. Fairy had other ideas and apparently cuddles were more important 😂

And honestly, this is your reminder not to be so hard on yourself when it comes to your dog.

There is so much dog training information out there. Do this. Never do that. Your dog should be doing this by now. This method is right, that method is wrong.

It can make you question whether you’re doing anything right.

My advice? Find a trainer whose approach resonates with you. Someone who listens, explains the why, looks at the dog in front of them and helps you find what works for you and your dog.

Training doesn’t have to look perfect.

Sometimes they nail it. Sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they decide it’s cuddle time instead. 😂

Be clear. Be consistent. Keep learning. Celebrate the little wins.

And don’t forget to actually enjoy your dog. 💜

What a way to wrap up our very first Best Behaviour Foundations course at Edgeworth!

🐶 8 dogs
🙋‍♀️ 8 fantastic handlers
🏆 Big wins all round!

Over the four weeks we’ve worked on building better communication, calmer dogs, stronger handling skills and practical training that can actually be used in everyday life.

But the biggest thing I loved seeing? The handlers grow alongside their dogs. More confidence, better timing, clearer communication and plenty of little lightbulb moments along the way.

A massive congratulations to all 8 teams — you should be incredibly proud of how far you’ve come. 👏

Remember, graduation doesn’t mean the training stops… now you take those foundations and keep building on them. 💜🐾
