Mushroom Rodentry

Mushroom Rodentry Breeding to improve upon the species for the benefit of the Australian rodent fancy since 2008. Mushroom Rodentry is owned by Elly and Tim.

Mushroom Rodentry has been breeding beautiful rats and mice for nine years, with a focus on breeding rodents to improve upon the species for the benefit of the Australian rodent fancy. This entails careful selective breeding for rats and mice of improved health, friendly temperaments, better longevity and larger size (who doesn't love a big ratty to squish?). We are very active members of the rode

nt community in Australia, and can be seen frequently at NSW based shows, picnics, other rodent events and even occasionally in QLD for events up there! We frequent many Australian based rodent orientated Facebook groups, to help provide other rodent lovers with information and share our stories, experiences and adorable rodent pictures. Elly is a rodent judge, mentor to new breeders, secretary of the Australian Rodent Club Inc., teacher of rodent related genetics and judging, and enjoys squishing rats. Tim likes to squish and cuddle with rat babies, a lot. He has earned the nickname 'Ratbeard' as he is often seen with small ratty faces poking out from his beard when playing with the bubs

Seasons greeting everyone!

It has been a good while since I have posted, but life recently has been absolutely crazy with having a fiance' overseas and a full time job working night shifts 60-90+ hours every week.

At this stage I have had very few rat and mouse litters this year, and currently only have one rat pairing and no active mouse pairings. At this time, Mushroom Rodentry does not sell rats or mice, as I barely own any myself!

For registered breeders of rats and mice in NSW, please visit the NSW Fancy Rodent Society club page or website to find local registered breeders. For QLD you can check out the Queensland Rodent Fanciers. At this time there are no active clubs in other states of Australia.

As for what I am working on, I still have my silk rats in an array of non-agouti colours, some standards and a handful of velours. My mice are all c-dilute or blue, in standard and longhair.

In the new year, a big change is coming to Mushroom as I am moving overseas to the US so I shall no longer be operating in Australia. So in the coming years you shall see me working on some interesting new varieties!

In the mean time, I hope everyone has a safe and happy holidays!

Meet MSR Sargeant Pepper and his sister MSR Paint it Black. These two lovely black longhaired mice turned 4 weeks old today and have just weaned.
It's exciting to have this variety back in the rodentry, going back to some old roots here as black longhairs were one of the first varieties we bred 10 years ago

Although Mushroom Rodentry is currently operating, we're relatively small in scale at the moment so rodents are only available for homes on occasion, mice more frequently than rats.

I highly recommend heading over the to NSW Fancy Rodent Society Inc. website and take a look at the registered breeders list and getting in touch with them if you're seeking to purchase rats or mice.

Stay squeaky folks :3

Today we attended the NSW Fancy Rodent Society October show, and did great! It was a pleasant day out as always, a very laid back show. Very proud of our small show team of rats and mice we took today, especially winning Grand Champion Rat in show with a boy who is showing for the first time at 4.5 months of age! Four of our boys are on a journey to QLD tomorrow to be the much loved and squishy pets of a fellow rat lover.
Our lovely boys are being transported via Animal Ark, an animal road freight company, from the Hawkesbury region here in NSW to Brisbane in QLD. Hopefully they travel well and thrive in their new home, I'll definitely miss these sooky la-la's
