🐾✨ GUESS THE VET ✨🐾

Some of our vets have bravely shared some childhood photos… but can you figure out who it is? 👀📸

Drop your guesses in the comments below ⬇️
Bonus points if you can explain your reasoning 😂

P.S. the other staff don't even know who is who!

We’ll reveal the answer tomorrow! 🩺🐶🐱

💡 Did You Know? 💡

We can process most pet insurance claims directly in clinic to help save you time and reduce the paperwork hassle 🐾

For some insurance providers, we can even offer gap-only claiming — meaning you only pay the portion of the bill not covered by your insurer at the time of your visit.

If your insurer isn't supported by gap-only claiming, full payment is required on the day, and we will process the claim for you so any eligible reimbursement is paid directly back to you by your insurance company.

If you have questions about your pet insurance or want to know whether your provider offers gap-only claiming, our team is always happy to help 😊

🐾 Meet Nurse Michele (“Moosh”) 🐾

With an incredible 30 years in the veterinary industry — and all 30 of those years spent with GVH — Michele is one of our much-loved and highly experienced team members! 💙

Michele first found her passion for vet nursing after being introduced to the industry through a family friend, and she’s never looked back.

At home, she has “one too many” French Bulldogs 🐶😂 and if there’s Chinese takeaway involved, she’s happy! 🥡

Her favourite part of the job is helping pets through rehabilitation consultations, including laser therapy and hydrotherapy on the underwater treadmill. Seeing pets regain comfort and mobility is what she loves most. ✨

When asked where she’d live if she could choose anywhere in the world, Michele says she’s happy right here in Australia

💡 Michele’s advice for pet owners:
“If you see your pet moving differently, come into the vets — we may be able to help with something as little as a rehabilitation program!”

We’re so lucky to have Moosh as part of the GVH family! 💙

Behind the Scenes @ GVH 🎬

Poor George came to see us earlier this week after developing a sudden head shake 🐶💫

After a thorough examination with Dr Harry, it was decided we needed a closer look inside George’s ear canal. With a light sedation administered by Dr Emma and Nurse Maddi, the team discovered a little something hiding deep inside 👀

Head to the comments to see what we found hiding in George’s ear! 🩺🐾

We often get asked why pets need to be under a general anaesthetic for dental procedures! 🦷🐶🐱

Unlike humans, dogs and cats don’t understand the importance of sitting still with their mouth open during a dental clean — and dental disease often hides below the gum line where we can’t see it during a normal awake examination.

While your pet is safely under anaesthetic, we are able to:
✨ Perform a full oral examination
✨ Take dental X-rays to assess the health of teeth below the gums
✨ Complete any extractions if required
✨ Thoroughly scale and polish the teeth

This allows us to properly diagnose and treat dental disease while keeping the procedure as safe and stress-free as possible for your pet and our staff!

Regular dental care is an important part of keeping your furry family member healthy and comfortable 💙

We don't like them thick, we don't like them chunky 🐾

Pet obesity isn’t just about looks — it’s one of the most common health risks we see, and it can seriously impact your pet’s quality of life.

Extra weight puts strain on joints, making it harder for pets to move comfortably. It also increases the risk of serious health issues including diabetes, heart disease, and breathing problems. Overweight pets are more prone to heat intolerance, liver disease, urinary issues, and even certain cancers. On top of that, obesity can shorten their lifespan and reduce their overall quality of life.

We know those pleading eyes are hard to resist (they’re professionals at it), but overfeeding and too many treats add up fast. What might seem like “a little chubby” can quickly turn into a bigger issue.

Keeping your pet at a healthy weight means:
• Measuring meals instead of guessing
• Limiting treats (yes, even the cute begging ones)
• Regular exercise and play
• Routine weight checks

A healthy pet is a happier, more active pet — and that means more good years together 💛

If you’re unsure about your pet’s weight or diet, have a chat with your vet team. We’re here to help, not judge.

✨ Meet the Team ✨

Say hello to Shyann 🐾
Trainee Vet Nurse & Receptionist | 3 years at GVH

Shyann is one of the friendly faces you’ll see both in the clinic and at reception, helping keep things running smoothly while making sure every patient (and owner!) feels welcome.

💬 Something people might not realise:
“It’s not just playing with animals — there’s a lot of emotional and physical hard work behind the scenes.”

💛 Favourite part of the job:
Building trust with nervous animals and seeing them relax over time.

🐶 Top tip for pet owners:
Trust your instincts — if something feels off, get it checked early.

🐰 Rabbit Desexing: Why It Matters 🐰

Desexing your rabbit isn’t just about preventing babies—it has major health and wellbeing benefits that can help your bunny live a longer, happier life 💙

💡 Health Benefits
• Eliminates the risk of testicular cancer in males
• Prevents uterine cancer in females (which affects up to 60–80% of undesexed rabbits), as well as ovarian and mammary cancers
• Helps rabbits live longer—often 8–12 years when healthy and desexed
• Reduces false pregnancies, which can lead to fur-pulling and even intestinal blockages

🐾 Behaviour & Social Benefits
• Less aggression and territorial behaviour
• Reduced urine spraying and easier litter training
• More affectionate and easier to bond with other rabbits
• Supports living in pairs or groups—important for their social wellbeing

🐣 Reproductive Control
• Prevents unwanted litters
• Helps reduce the number of rabbits entering shelters

⏱️ When should it be done?
Most rabbits are desexed between 4–6 months of age, once they reach sexual maturity.

💙 Recovery
• Males usually bounce back quickly within a few days
• Females need a little extra care—monitoring their wound daily is important
