💪Little Lexi's not so funny bone situation 💪
Poor little Lexi was sadly hit by a car resulting in a fractured ulna — one of the two bones in the forearm (similar to the bones between our elbow and wrist in humans).
His fracture occurred just below the “funny bone”… but there was absolutely nothing funny about this injury. The break extended directly into the elbow joint, making it a very serious condition. When a fracture involves a joint, it can disrupt the smooth cartilage surface that allows the joint to move comfortably and normally.
Without urgent surgical repair, injuries like this can lead to:
⚠️ Severe arthritis
⚠️ Chronic pain
⚠️ Permanent stiffness
⚠️ Long-term loss of limb function
If left untreated, the joint can heal unevenly, causing painful bone rubbing and ongoing mobility problems for the rest of a pet’s life.
To give Lexi the very best chance at a full recovery, Dr Rod performed surgery on a Sunday so treatment could begin immediately ❤️
As you can see on the X-rays, the fracture clearly extended through the elbow joint.
Dr Rod repaired the fracture by compressing the ends together so there was no gap in the joint cartilage and then using a plate and screws to hold it in place🩺✨
Lexi's Mum assures us that Lexi is doing great and is still up to Mischief and is as cheeky as ever!
