The Australasian Bosdog, formerly The Australian Bulldog, has never been about fads, rare colours, or playing to the market.
The ABS philosophy has always been about creating a recognizable 'bulldog type' bred for Australian conditions. The original goal of the breed. A dog bred to a Breed Standard (which includes allowable/acceptable colours, sizes, weights etc).
Once the foundation was set and there has been no need to introduce any further different dog breeds, we have always concentrated on generational breeding, and thus have never had to worry about percentages etc.
This consistency in our breeding has resulted in a stand-alone breed due to our unchanged Breed Standard since inception!
We are now breeding 6th Generation dogs (that is no other breed - AB to AB). Above 5th generation is considered purebred in a lot of literature about any breed of animal.
A healthy dog is paramount with great temperament. Our hip scores are now at a median score of 19 with meticulous records kept by the ABS Committee. Our Breed Register is unbroken and continuous since its inception in 1997.
You can fuss about blues, purples, pink with yellow spots (!) but you will never throw true over generations because you are always bringing in other breeds of dogs to feed this perceived 'need' to engage the public with something 'new'. You have no real long term, futuristic purpose for a genuine breed of dog, which is what the ABS Inc is (and has always been) striving for. We have a goal, an achievable goal not a short term, fad orientated -or dare I say money orientated - wish list.
We are in correspondence with the ANKC with regard to eventual recognition of The Australasian Bosdog.
