Today we’re celebrating not one, not two, but three birthdays - Liam, Brooke, and Maddie’s son, Marshmallow, all share the same birthday! 🎂🥳

Some of you might know that Liam is my husband. I met him in a grotty nightclub in our country hometown, where he took the coat off his back to keep me warm (which I lost, because of course I did). I was untameable back then, but I should’ve known he’d always have the biggest heart.
His career in professional football was front and centre for the first decade of our relationship, but when that chapter ended, he immediately went all in on Uncanny Animals, took over primary care of our kids and home, and never hesitated to shift his focus entirely to support my dreams. And really, it’s not just my dreams; He’s always thinking of our staff and clients, and how to build their happiness. He’s faultlessly kind and I count my lucky stars to share his love. Soppy, I know. Sorry 😅

Brooke has been with Uncanny Animals for over a year now, and to say she’s changed the way we do things is an understatement. She’s a natural leader (classic Leo) and became our salon manager this year. She’s a multitasker, a brilliant educator, and a direct but calm presence for our staff and trainees. Every day she asks if I’ve acted on the latest idea we brainstormed… she never lets me rest, damn it 😂 But her passion for this business is a gift. As for her grooming… her skills have gone through the roof. She also has this hilarious habit of looking at the dogs she’s grooming and saying, “This dog doesn’t even know how cute they are,” and then tearing up, which always makes me laugh 😂 I’m certain she’ll be leading the industry in the next few years. Mark my words!

And darling Marshmallow is truly an icon of this place. Watching Maddie’s bond with him over the years has been heartwarming. He’s also been her grooming muse - she’s learnt so much from him, and passed those skills on to our clients’ grooms. He’s also obsessed with spatulas (yes, the cooking utensil lol). I hope you get a brand-new one today, Marshmallow! 🥄💕

We love you all so much and hope you each have the beautiful day you deserve! 💖

PET FIRST AID 🐾🩺
Some of the UA crew completed their Pet First Aid training today! For our juniors, it was their very first time, while our senior team refreshed and sharpened their skills.

We believe it’s absolutely vital for all our staff to stay up to date with first aid training; It prepares us to respond confidently in an emergency and also helps us identify early signs of health concerns that may have been missed by pet parents (such as skin issues, rashes, ear infections, dental problems etc) so we can advise to seek veterinary care.

Regular training also ensures we stay current with the latest industry standards and best practices in both grooming and veterinary care, which are always evolving.

Beautiful grooms are amazing but safety and health is always our primary care for our beloved clients. Well done team 💖

Thank you to Medicpet Australia - for Pet Professionals and Groomer Nation for your knowledge and expertise, Iv San Bernard - Australia for the goodies and Big Paws Little Paws for the yummy food and hosting!

I’m back, babyyy! (It’s Annie 😄) Huge thanks to the incredible UA team for holding down the socials while I was off gallivanting overseas 🙏

A big thank you also to our wonderful clients for your patience while I travelled with my daughter, Cheska, for her international Acrobatic Gymnastics comps. The little legend and her trio brought home a silver medal …proud mum moment, don’t mind me! 🥈💖

While we were adventuring through Germany, Poland, and London, I couldn’t help but dog-watch my way across Europe. 👀

In Germany, dogs were everywhere! Cafes, shopping malls, inside stores. It was a total culture shift and had me smiling non-stop. Oodles were also very popular there.

Poland was a vibe with flared-leg styles and topknots galore particularly on the Yorkies and Malteses — I was obsessed. I tried to scope out some local grooming salons… found one but was too shy to say hi 😅

London was quieter on the pup front, though I think the heat had something to do with that!

I only spotted one cat the whole trip! Many more roaming kitties here in Melbourne 🫢

Interestingly, despite Europe being more immersive with dogs in public spaces, Melbourne still seems to have way more dogs out and about (being a bit of a nerd-burger I looked up the stats and they agree with my observation.)

Anyway, thanks for letting me share a little slice of the trip! I’m back feeling refreshed, inspired, and so excited to be back in the salon with your gorgeous fur babies.
Annie xx

NAIL CLIPPING 💅 🐾✨
Regular nail trims aren’t just about neat paws…they’re essential for your dog’s comfort and long-term health!

Overgrown nails can alter your dog’s natural foot position and gait, placing undue stress on their paws, tendons, ligaments, and joints. This can contribute to splay-foot, arthritis, joint degeneration, mobility challenges, posture problems and cracking nails 😬

That’s why we recommend a clip every 3–4 weeks to keep your pup comfy, mobile, and happy on their feet 💅🐶

Nail trims are included in all our Full Grooms and many Mini Grooms — so if you’re visiting regularly, we’ve got it covered.
Just need a quick paw-dicure? You can book in for nail clips almost any day! 🐕💖

How old is your dog in “dog years?” (Chart on next slide!)

We’re not sure, but we think Bob might be the oldest doggy on our books! He’s almost 20 years around the sun this year 🤭 Here he is with his new mate, Mimi.

He’s my family dog- I picked him up from the shelter when I moved out of home for my then little sister who was only 6. My sister is now a fully grown adult that has finished university and is in the workforce 😂

I love and owe a lot to this little guy. Those that remember my early days would know I learnt how to groom on Bob (having two hairless dogs wasn’t great to learn on 🤪) I even brought him into grooming school… where he was so naughty and embarrassed me in front of the trainers 😂

We love our golden oldies. Our goal as groomers is to make the process as quick, efficient, and stress-free as possible, ensuring senior pets are cared for and comfortable throughout the experience. Often that means saying goodbye to fancy hairstyles to prioritise comfort.

Sometimes, when health concerns arise due to age, we may recommend grooming be done under the supervision of a vet. It’s never an easy call, but know that these decisions come from a place of care and respect. Whether we’re grooming your oldie ourselves or referring you to a vet for safety reasons, your pet’s wellbeing will always come first.

Now tell us… how old is your baby in dog years? (Yes—they’re still your baby, even 95 in dog years like Bob. We don’t make the rules 😘)

Japanese Chinese/ Japanese Spaniel gloriousness 💖 Did you know that the origins of the Japanese Chin actually originated in China? So many breed names can be confusing in this way where the their breed name may have a geographic place in them (sometimes because they were popularised or refined there) but it isn’t where they originated. Can you think of other breeds like this?

Teddy bears, teddy bears — so many teddy bears! 🧸 The request for a “teddy bear cut” is really our bread and butter. Just like actual teddy bears though, they come in all different types! The final result is determined by the coat type and pet parents’ requests (that’s why we ask so many questions on check-in!)
No matter what style though, you’re always certain to get your sentient little teddy to cuddle and dote on at the end 🧸💕
