This is a request for opinions as to what you would reasonably expect for your money when your horse is on agistment.
How much would you expect to pay for agistment for a horse, with you unable to attend to view, but paying for feed over and above the agistment cost?
To be clear this horse arrived at my place after owner had been paying agistment and paid an inordinate amount of money for hay (mid 5 figures).
Horse had lost a lot of weight, absolutely crawling with lice and wormy.
Now, I’m not talking full agistment costs. But what do you expect for $14.50 a day, in a paddock, fees paid for wormers, feet and hay.
What are the responsibilities you as consumers/absent owners expect from agistment farms?
Ie- do you expect that you would be told if your horse was losing condition? Had lice? Needed rugging? What sort of communication would you personally expect?
Please do not comment on the horse in the photos. I am interested more so in what you expect for your agistment fee. The paddock with no further responsibility? Or someone to cast their eye over your horse daily?
What sort of rate would you expect for basic welfare checks and communication with the owner of something was amiss?

Just for clarity, as I have been the target of keyboard warriors. We are closing Selby Park Welsh Ponies and Cobs. We wanted to breed Welsh Cob and pony crosses for performance ponies. We have tried to get together a good variety of purebred ponies. But couple this with our other horses, we are closing the Welsh Pony stud and reducing numbers for our performance horse side.

We are closing our doors to our stud. The drought got us before we even got going.

No reasonable offers refused.

All welsh B and part bred young stock is $1000 negotiable. All weanlings will come with service certificates to register.
