🌧️ Rain, Mud & Wagging Tails 🐾

Yes — we’re still walking!

Believe it or not, a bit of smart planning goes a long way when it comes to dodging the worst of the wet. Today, for example, we missed almost all of the rain. I kept a close eye on the BOM radar and adjusted my schedule to miss the heaviest downpours. My more rain-averse pups were walked later in the day, when the skies were clearer, rain jackets on and at parks with shelter nearby — just in case! I also had snuffling games ready as a backup to keep them mentally under cover if needed.

Meanwhile, my big dogs (aka mud monsters!) were out bright and early, enjoying splashing through puddles and soaking up all the fun that comes with the fresh smells the rain brings out and enjoying slightly less the towel & hose off after the walk! (I don't understand what it is about clean water dogs hate so much!)

Lane Cove Council is currently revising their policies regarding dogs on all sports fields. They have already claimed that in order to maintain the new sports field at Bob Campbell oval having "dogs allowed off-leash on the field, will not be possible." We are very concerned that Lane Cove Council is considering banning dogs from all other sports fields in Lane Cove as well as part of their revised policy.

Whilst we understand that the policy is currently only under revision we believe this is a chance to ensure that the community has the opportunity to inform their initial decision making process and present a view that is not exclusively that of a single stake holder.

This topic has already featured in articles by both The Daily Telegraph and North Shore Times. A Current Affair on Channel 9 will also be airing a segment regarding Dogs on Sports fields in Lane Cove on Tuesday the 25th at 7pm.

I, along with several other concerned community members, (Jo Brennan, Nadia Ruzicka, Suzanne Varrall) have started a petition to ensure that Sports Fields remain spaces accessible to all members of the community.

We are not asking for unrestricted access. We understand the importance of sports as a community activity but at a time when space is becoming an increasingly limited and ever more valued commodity it’s not realistic or fair that sports fields be reserved for one small section of the community.

Sports Players typically only utilise the fields on weekends and occasionally for afternoon/evening training, why should this valuable public space remain empty and unused the rest of week?

We believe that responsible pet ownership, including cleaning up after pets and ensuring they are well-behaved in public, is essential and must be upheld to ensure that these spaces remain welcoming to all community members.

This is my pup Star! 🌟 She's a 7 year old cavoodle who's my best friend and responsible for my love of dogs! If you've been following this account for a while you'll know her already and seen lots of our adventures together since this used to be her account .

She's definitely a lap dog and loves nothing more than to snuggle up right next to me at night! She also loves to meet up with other dogs at the park particularly her best friend Hallie who's the only dog she'll share a woofle 🧇 with! She's also a great little agility dog and does the whole circuit at Blackmans Park!
