Why do some horses go great with one rider then buck others off?

BALANCE

There could be a million reasons. A big one... BALANCE
Horses need to stay on their feet to survive. If they feel staying upright could be compromised by an unstable , unbalanced rider they may buck etc to protect themselves.

Balance of horse and riders posture and strength is something to continue to learn and better.

I first heard this discussed by Amy Skinner Horsemanship and Garry Mathews and I believe it rings very true.

Horses have the incredible ability to adapt to their environment- yards, stables, paddocks, wet and dry, soft and hard ground. However, frequent fluctuations between grounds that are dry and solid and wet and muddy can cause hooves to become softer and more fragile, increasing the risk of breaks, cracks, flare ups and infections.

Regular appointments with your trusted Farrier and Veterinarian are essential, particularly with the Sunshine Coast’s current weather conditions. They will be able to detect changes in hoof condition and determine the best course of treatment and care.

We love this description of the horse (attributed to legendary horseman Ray Hunt).

‘The Horse is a naturally transparent, powerful and yet willingly vulnerable soul, who lives in the ‘Moment’.’

At Padfoot Equine the horses come first. Their welfare. Their health. Their happiness. They deserve it.

Finally getting some rain is amazing! But, what comes with wetter ground is the re-emergence of issues such as thrush and seedy toe. Make sure - particularly in wet conditions - you are picking out your horses’ feet - properly - at least once a day AND are alerting us at the first sign of anything unusual or funky. Use Bugbuster or a mix of apple cider vinegar and copper sulphate to help keep pathogens at bay. Remember, the best thing you can do for your horses’ feet is stick to a 5 week trimming cycle AND keep them clean in the meantime!

At this time of year we’re starting to see a lot more thrush. Between farriery visits, do your horse a favour. Pick their feet clean - thoroughly - at least once a day and give a quick spray with a mix of apple cider vinegar and copper sulphate (bluestone). This will help keep bacteria at bay. And, if things are looking a bit off - or you suspect some seedy toe or separation - give your farrier a call and get them in sooner if you can.
