The countdown is on. Melbourne Renfaire arrives for a two-day event on the 16th–17th of May, featuring live combat, jousting, music, and costumed performers.

Sanctum will be in the Goblin Bazaar, a curated artisan market showcasing over 100 independent craftsmen. We’re so grateful to be included in such a selective curated lineup and given the opportunity to present The Dying Art of Taxidermy across the weekend at this first-of-its-kind Melbourne event. ✨

The Maackii butterfly, often described as iridescent green, but not in the way you’d expect.

Despite its vivid metallic appearance, the wing scales themselves are not actually green. They are composed of chitin, which is inherently colourless to faintly translucent, typically layered over a darker, melanin-rich base.

The colour is produced from nanostructure, not a true green pigment.

Microscopic arrangements within the scales refract incoming light, selectively reflecting wavelengths in the ~495–570 nm range; the portion of the spectrum perceived by the human eye as green.

In development since November, with the past few months focused on mounting and hand-painting.

This piece is a 3D-printed human fetal specimen replica. It has been finished with detailed hand-painting to achieve a beautiful patina consistent with real historical human fetal specimens. An ethical piece for your collection without human biological material.

These pieces will be available through our store in the coming weeks and will be available at .co within the .

πŸ–€ The Goliath Beetle πŸ–€

One of the largest beetles on Earth, the Goliath beetle (Goliathus) can reach over 10 cm in length and is powerful enough to lift many times its own body weight. Native to the forests of Africa, their striking patterns, iridescent wings and immense size have made them one of the most sought-after specimens in entomological collections.

I have a small number of framed Goliath beetles available for them this Sunday at the Geelong West Town Hall. I’ll be there with the beautiful πŸ’•πŸŽ€

These are difficult to source and I generally only procure them once or twice a year, so if you’ve been waiting for one, this is the time.

Come and see them in person.

Hi everyone, I’m Dr Moe.
Welcome, and thank you for all the new follows.
A quick recap - I come from a biology background, and my work blends science, anatomy, and taxidermy craftsmanship. I’m grateful to have you here, and I’m looking forward to learning, creating, and sharing this space together.
