Hi, my name is Kate. And I'm a dreamer. I've always lived with my head in the clouds and my feet on the ground. That means I dream big dreams and then somehow manage to make them a reality. This is my next dream. Broadmeadow Park is the name of our property (which we do not yet own), which will be home to an ANKC-registered border collie kennel (name to be confirmed), a little flower farm (I've on

ly gardened for two years), and a country escape (for my family and for you)! Join me on a journey of building a slow, beautiful life with blooms and border collies, being grateful for all the grace and beauty we are surrounded by every day.

A massive thank you to Dee from Kolorko Kennel for always being so generous with her time in teaching and mentoring me on all things border collies 😍

Our beautiful Taylor is a Kolorko bred dog and she always enjoys a visit from her breeder, as do I 🫶🏻

Ok, so here is what I learnt:

🐾 have a routine, and do the same thing in the same order every time. This is so the dog learns what to expect. This helps them stay calm.

🐾 spray with conditioning spray first if brushing a dry coat.

🐾 use a slicker brush to remove any knots and tangles.

🐾 a simple rake tool is all you need for the de-shred which removes the loose undercoat.

🐾 the mars tool must be used with respect. Never use it on their nice top coat. It is for their pants, tail and to get out big knots and matts - it cuts the coat, so be very careful

🐾 stay relaxed yourself, otherwise the dog will sense your anxiety and also be anxious. (Are you listening Kate? Yes, I am!)

🐾 do a brush at least 1/week and a full groom once per month. Keep it fun, relaxing and enjoy the bonding time with your dogs.

Taylor had been very nervous about grooming (because I was nervous) and she is so much happier now, even after just one positive session with Dee! She also looks stunning 🤩

And the Zinnias have come out to play!

Summer gardening has so far felt a little depressing. Intense heat came with the start of spring. No rain. Now weekly storms. I have idea what I'm doing in this climate.

So seeing flowers this week has been very joyful! I will pick them on the weekend!

A little update:

Of the 60 odd zinnia seeds I planted I only got 15 plants. 🤨

Of the 16 dahlia tubers I've planted, I only got 8 that have sprouted. The rest baked in the ground or rotted. I have planted another 12 so we'll see how they go! 😬

Only 4 cosmos seeds have sprouted, then they died. I bought seedling from Bunnings. I've kept them alive for 4 days so far 😅

My 5 little Star Jasmine's I planted at Easter. Dead. The heat killed them. 😞

I saved the fruit trees by shading them from the afternoon sun. And the pomegranate is flowering 🤩

I had a macadamia tree in a pot. Cost me $50. It died a slow and painful heat stroke death. I bought another one for $28. It's now in the ground and I look forward to sitting under it when I'm 70. 👵🏼

The two Jacaranda trees in my front yard were looking very sad after winter. A week of rain and they are thriving!

I've had more plants dry out, get root rot or be eaten by a border collie than I care to admit.

But by golly we're having fun!

This is why I'm terrible at grooming 👇🏻

I'm one of those people that hates not being good at something. I'm also a bit of a stress head/worrier! And so when my confidence is low, the anxiety is high.

Owning dogs is always such a mirror because they can sense your emotions and so because I don't like grooming, I'm pretty sure that's why they don't like grooming!

And just like with dog training we go slow and 'condition' and 'desensitise' a dog, this process is all about desensitising me 😅

Our very first litter between Taylor & Marshall will be our 'Reputation' litter. It's gonna be quite a mash up 😉
