NO CHOCOLATE THIS EASTER FOR YOUR FURY FRIENDS!
- Ensure all chocolate is locked away and secure
- DO NOT FEED YOUR DOGS OR CATS CHOCOLATE - cakes, Easter eggs, block chocolate etc.
- If you think your pet has eaten chocolate or you know it has, contact your Veterinary clinic as soon as possible.
WHY is chocolate bad for your pets your ask?
-Theobromine and Caffeine: These stimulants affect the central nervous system, heart, and metabolic processes. Dogs and cats metabolize these compounds much slower than humans, allowing them to reach toxic levels.
-Concentration Matters: Cocoa powder, baking chocolate, and dark chocolate are the most dangerous, followed by milk chocolate. White chocolate has low levels but can still cause illness due to high fat content.
-High Fat Content: Beyond the toxins, the high fat content in chocolate can trigger pancreatitis, a serious and painful inflammatory condition.
SYMPTOMS
- Mild: Vomiting, diarrhea, increased thirst/urination.
- Moderate/Severe: Hyperactivity, restlessness, muscle tremors, seizures, rapid breathing, and irregular heart rate.
Hope for a safe and chocolate free Easter for all your pets this year 😀
THANK YOU
