Alert for our patients. We have seen a surge in cases of Canine cough over the past week. Please take care around dog parks and isolate your dog if they are coughing. Ensure your dog's vaccinations are up to date as they will help reduce the likelihood of developing severe disease.

🐕‍🦺Public notice- Kennel Cough🐕‍🦺

We have had multiple cases of Kennel Cough recently which tells us that it is prevalent in the area 😷

Kennel Cough is a common, highly contagious respiratory disease in dogs. It can be spread via direct contact, contaminated surfaces and airborne droplets.

Signs can include: Dry/Hacking cough, lethargy, loss of appetite, fever, runny nose or eyes or occasional gagging.

Whilst it is treatable, we encourage all dog owners to make sure their vaccinations are up-to-date, being cautious interacting with other dogs at public parks and consider keeping elderly or immunocompromised dogs separate from other dogs in public.

If you suspect your dog may be unwell, please let our staff know when booking and before bringing them in to the clinic so that we can take necessary measures to prevent the spread.

Call us on 9495 1226 to make an appointment.

🐦‍⬛Bird Flu🐦‍⬛

With growing concerns regarding the H5N1 High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (aka Bird Flu), we want to reassure our clients that we are still accepting wildlife.

As per recommendation of the Veterinary Practice Board of Western Australia, veterinary clinics should not be refusing to treat wildlife and birds because of avian influenza concerns.

With that said, certain protocols and workplace safety measures need to be implemented to protect wildlife. We encourage all members of the public to report sick wildlife and birds to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline before touching them, and to ring ahead before bringing any sick or injured wildlife for treatment.

If unsure, please call the clinic for advice before attempting to move sick or injured wildlife. These practices will help ensure the safety of our wildlife and staff.

We will endeavour to keep you updated as the situation progresses, and as always, appreciate your understanding.

World Veterinary Day falls on Saturday 25th April this year. Since that's also ANZAC Day, why not celebrate a day early?

Not all heroes wear capes- some wear scrubs. Shout out to the incredible people who can diagnose a patient that can't tell them where it hurts or what the problem is. Your dedication, patience and skill are unmatched!

Happy World Veterinary Day to the amazing team at Ark Veterinary Hospital- our pets (and we!) are lucky to have you.
