It’s where you’ll find fresh produce, pantry staples and seasonal goodies from local farmers, growers and producers who can’t always attend every week in person — but are still out there doing the hard work to feed our community.

Saturday morning is SJ Farmers Market morning.

This week we’re also marking International Compost Awareness Week at the market with Robyn from Waste Is My Resource. There’ll be a static display showcasing simple home composting techniques, with ideas to suit every household — whether you’ve got a big backyard or a small courtyard. We’ve also got FREE children’s activities, so bring the kids.

It’s more than just a great morning out. Every coffee, every juice, every meal, every handmade good, every loaf of bread, every dozen eggs and bunch of veggies helps support local growers, makers and small businesses who show up week after week.

It keeps this market going. It keeps local families doing what they love. And it keeps our community connected.

Preening is a natural and important for chickens to do most days, it keeps their feathers clean and looking good, they are not sniffing their backside.

Good looking feathers, help to protect them from the weather and water, regulate their temperature, and protect their sensitive areas, they also get rid of the stuff like the dirt and pest.

Why is it called Preening?

They have a oil gland called a "Preen" gland near their tail, they use the oil to waterproof and groom their feather.

It's sort of like chicken hair gel.... made near their bum.

Chicken Always want what the other chickens have... until they have something better, then they all of sudden non-sharers.

Reminds me of a friend I went to dinner that state on arriving at a restaurant " I don't share food"

That only lasted the first course.
