This is the chickens garden! It’s filled with delicious leafy greens like Silverbeet, Kale, parsley and cabbages - sometimes broccoli or Beetroot (for the leaves). 🥬Every morning on my rounds I gather a big bunch for each pen. Keeping your birds on a quality feed like Laucke Mills Showbird breeder, will provide great nutrition, but I always like to add extra fresh greens for vitamins K, A and C as well as calcium and iron. It also helps make delicious deep yellow egg yokes 🍳 and keeps the birds healthy and entertained !

Now there is info out there about oxalic acid in leafy greens binding the calcium and causing egg binding - I’ve never had this problem and reckon it’s down to
🥇1. A high quality pellet as core diet as well as shell grit always available
☀️2. Regular free ranging
🌱3. Quantity - they aren’t exclusively eating leaves.

Some recommend apple cider vinegar in chooks water to increase stomach acid to assist with calcium absorption as this works with human bodies.

My new non-standard colour in Belgian D’uccle - do you like it? There’s a bit of light blue in the undercoat with white spots on a nutmeg base. This is Salt - a bit bemused as I’ve interrupted her in her daily egg laying task 😝 Isn’t she adorable?! 😍
