Spring is here and while we love seeing our furry friends enjoy the outdoors, it's important to be aware of grass seed dangers! 🌱 Those innocent-looking seeds can easily work their way into your dog's ears as they run and play through tall grass, causing serious discomfort and potential health issues.

At Kooringal Vet and Junee Vet, we want to help keep your pooches safe and happy during their outdoor adventures. After walks through grassy areas, always check your dog's ears, paws, and coat for any embedded seeds. πŸ•

If you notice your dog shaking their head excessively, pawing at their ears, or showing signs of distress, don't wait – seek professional help immediately. Early intervention can prevent more serious complications and get your beloved companion back to comfortable play time.

Prevention is key! Keep grass in your yard trimmed short and consider avoiding areas with particularly long or seeded grass during peak season. Your four-legged family members will thank you! 🐾

Clover's story reminds us how quickly emergencies can happen. 🐍

When Clover encountered a brown snake, her family acted fast. They called our Temora Vet Hospital team, who immediately provided life-saving antivenom and emergency care. After stabilizing Clover was transferred to our emergency practice, Kooringal Veterinary Hospital for specialized care until she was soon well enough to return home.

We understand how scary these moments can be for pet families. Quick action and proper veterinary care made all the difference for Clover's recovery.

Every second counts in snake bite emergencies. Our team is trained to handle these critical situations with the expertise your pet needs.

Mel brings warmth and care to every conversation. She understands that calling a vet can be stressful. Her genuine compassion shines through, making difficult moments a little easier for pet families.

🐾 Fact: Fractured Dog Nails πŸΆπŸ’…from our friends at Griffith Veterinary Hospital

A fractured nail can be painful and may cause bleeding or infection if left untreated. 🦴⚠️

Recently, we treated Sheeba the Sheltie πŸ• who fractured her nail. Dr. Mahdi 🩺 carefully applied a pressure bandage and sent her home with antibiotics πŸ’Š to prevent infection.

If your dog has a broken or bleeding nail:

🩸 Apply gentle pressure to stop bleeding

🧼 Keep the area clean

🐾 See your vet promptly for proper treatment

Early care helps prevent complications and speeds healing β€” just like with Sheeba! βœ¨πŸ’™

Creepy, crawly and QUITE disgusting! This microscopic menace is an ear mite recently discovered in the ear canal of one of our patients 🀒

As their name suggests, ear mites inhabit the ear canals and surrounding skin, causing irritation and discomfort for the afflicted animal. Ear mite infestations can occur in dogs and cats, but are more common in cats (like our feline friend here). Signs of infestation typically include skin irritation, scratching around the ears, head and neck, head shaking, the presence of an ear discharge that is dark and waxy (resembling coffee grounds) and an unpleasant odour from the ears. Just as our team did here, we can confirm the presence of ear mites by looking at a sample from the ear canal under the microscope. Though it isn't the prettiest sight, it now means we can confirm a course of action to help our poor patient.

Treatment is simple and accessible; a thorough clean of the ear canal and course of medicated drops is effective in taking down ear mites. We strongly recommend a monthly preventative for ALL pets, however, to prevent infestation from occurring. Products like Bravecto or Simparica offer protection against fleas, ticks, worms and mites for cats and dogs. If you'd like to discuss which preventative products would be best for your pet, or notice any of the above symptoms in your pet, don't hesitate to give us a call on ☎️02 69225375.
