🚨 Parvovirus Alert – Cases Confirmed in Wangaratta & Wodonga 🚨
We've recently become aware of parvovirus cases in the Wangaratta and Wodonga areas, so now is the time to be extra vigilant—especially if you have a puppy.
🦠 What is Parvovirus?
Parvovirus (Parvo) is a highly contagious viral disease that primarily affects puppies and unvaccinated dogs. It attacks the intestinal tract and immune system and can become life-threatening very quickly without prompt veterinary treatment.
⚠️ Signs of Parvovirus include:
🐾 Severe vomiting
🐾 Bloody or foul-smelling diarrhoea
🐾 Lethargy and weakness
🐾 Loss of appetite
🐾 Fever or low body temperature
🐾 Dehydration
🛡️ How can you protect your puppy?
✔️ Ensure vaccinations are up to date.
✔️ Avoid taking young puppies to dog parks, public parks, pet stores, or other high-traffic dog areas until they've completed their vaccination course and your veterinarian has advised it's safe.
✔️ Keep your puppy away from unknown or unvaccinated dogs.
✔️ Practise good hygiene by cleaning shoes, hands, and equipment after visiting areas where dogs frequent.
🚑 If your puppy is showing signs of parvovirus, please call the clinic on 03 5728 2410 before bringing them in. This allows the team to prepare appropriate isolation measures and helps reduce the risk of spreading the virus to other patients.
If your puppy develops vomiting, diarrhoea, or seems unwell, don't delay—seek veterinary attention immediately. Early treatment can make a significant difference.
