This man was one of those incredible horsemen we are blessed with meeting in this journey with horses, " my friend" he is talking about was Tom Dorrance, he worked with and rode with Tom for many years and constantly referred to him as his friend and teacher, and gave Tom credit for guiding him down the road he ended up on, Both humble and amazing men, their skills had to be seen to be believed, it was a blessing to have met them both.

Have had a great couple of days doing groundwork with some folks, Jan Austin from Currumbin brought her beautiful stallion to me and we got to do groundwork with the big guy and I got to share principles of ground work that don't involve pressure and release, this can be a dangerous principle, particularly with stallions, I shared this also with Mike Mayo and his warm blood who was getting very troubled when he even perceived that pressure was being used on him, we as humans push on our horses and usually are not aware that that is indeed what we are doing and horses can and will push back, horses know all about this as they learn it as foals when they shoulder block their mothers so they can drink, so if we as humans do things like hand feed our horses so called "treats" then we perpetuate a game they already know, and one that worked for them already, this ties into our handling them on the ground, some of you will have been told " stand your ground, and make them respect you" I on the other hand would not stand in front of a train and demand it respect my space, I stay in balance and move out of the way, if we bring this same thought to horse, then the horse gets sick of, very quickly, trying to push on something that's not there to push on and if we stay in balance and not punish the horse, we will magically discover, respect, from them to us, and us to them, no pressure required.

Oh my god I love my job, I'm in Jimboomba, QLD, and recently had the pleasure of being introduced to Di Rickards.
Di has very graciously shared her extensive knowledge with me and also introduced me to some members of her local horse community at the Park Ridge Active Riding Group.
Di ,thanks so much for the use of your Yarralee Dressage facility as the site for me to share my knowledge with a number of people over the last few weeks.
