MODERATE FLOODING IS OCCURRING AT MUSWELLBROOK AND DENMAN
MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT SINGLETON SATURDAY NIGHT
MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT MAITLAND SUNDAY.
There is currently moderate flooding at Muswellbrook, where river levels peaked at 9.9 metres around midnight Friday, just below the major flood level. The main flood peak is now approaching Denman where river levels are expected to peak later this morning, with moderate flooding.
Flood waters from the Upper Hunter will combine with large inflows from the Goulburn River and Wybong Creek. These flood flows are expected to cause moderate and possibly major flooding to develop at Singleton during Saturday afternoon into Sunday. Moderate flooding is possible at Maitland on Sunday.
River Height Predictions
UPPER HUNTER
River levels along the Kingdon Ponds and Aberdeen have fallen below minor flood levels. Moderate flooding is occurring at Muswellbrook and Denman.
•The Hunter River at Muswellbrook peaked at 9.90 metres around midnight Friday into Saturday and is currently at 8.63 metres and falling, with moderate flooding.
•The Hunter River at Denman is expected to peak near 8.90 metres around 09:00 am Saturday, with moderate flooding
LOWER HUNTER
Moderate and possibly Major flooding is expected at Singleton. Moderate flooding is possible at Maitland.
•The Hunter River at Singleton is expected to exceed the minor flood level (10.00 m) around midday Saturday. The river level is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (11.50 m) early Saturday evening and may reach the major flood level (13.00 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday. Further rises possible.
•The Hunter River at Maitland (Belmore Bridge) is expected to exceed the minor flood level (5.90 m) around 11:00 am Saturday morning on the high tide. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (8.90 m) overnight Sunday into Monday. Further Rises Possible.
What we are expecting:
UPPER HUNTER
At Muswellbrook and surrounding areas:
•New England Highway is closed at the rail overpass at Maitland Bridge Street
•Possible isolation of properties along Wybong and Kayuga roads
•Muswellbrook to Sandy Hollow road may close At Denman and surrounding areas:
•Low lying rural properties and roads will be affected and possible inundation of low-lying rural areas
•Denman Road (Golden Highway) between Muswellbrook and Sandy Creek is closed
•Babbington Street may experience localised flooding
•Flooding starts in and around Ogilvie, Palace Streets, Jerdan Street
•Possible isolation of Denman and possible inundation of low lying properties.
LOWER HUNTER
At Singleton: (Donolly Bridge)
•Bridge over Hunter River near Coolmore Stud (approx. 8kms north west of Jerrys Plains) on Golden Highway is closed – Use alternate route via New England Highway Singleton
•Possible isolation of Whittingham area
•Golden Highway (Mitchell Line of Road) between New England Highway and Range Road is closed
•Bridge over Redmanvale Creek, south east of Jerrys Plains on Golden Highway may be closed
•Road to Jerrys Plains (Golden Highway) will close
•Inundation begins of rural low-lying areas in and around Glennriding, Dunolly, Combo
•East Singleton may be impacted by minor road closures including: Dangar Road, Greenwood Avenue, Whitefalls Lane, Haggarty Lane, Netsfeild Lane, Kanoona Lane, Racecourse Lane
At Maitland: (Belmore Bridge)
•Melville Ford Bridge will be closed
•Stanhope Road will be cut at Kilfoyles Bridge between Luskintyre Road and Lambs Valley Road. Alternate route via Branxton and Stanhope
•Windermere Road at Windermere is cut just past Windermere House
What you need to do:
Denman may be isolated, once the river exceeds 8.23 meters at the Denman gauge, residents should prepare now for possible isolation and inundation of low lying areas.
•Do not drive, ride or walk through flood water
•Farmers on low lying land close to rivers and creeks are urged to monitor livestock, pumps and other equipment. Waste and chemical containers should be located well above predicted flood levels.
•Residents of low lying areas near the river should keep an active watch on the flood waters.
•Keep in contact with your neighbours.
•Consider impacts of possible road closures on work, family and educational commitments.
•Monitoring emergency warnings and severe weather updates on local ABC radio, NSW SES Hunter page and Bureau of Meteorology website.
•If you live in a low-lying area and are advised by an emergency services officer to evacuate, please do so.
