MODERATE FLOODING IS OCCURRING AT MUSWELLBROOK AND DENMAN
MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT SINGLETON SATURDAY NIGHT
MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT MAITLAND SUNDAY.
There is currently moderate flooding at Muswellbrook, where river levels peaked at 9.9 metres around midnight Friday, just below the major flood level. The main flood peak is now approaching Denman where river levels are expected to peak later this morning, with moderate flooding.
Flood waters from the Upper Hunter will combine with large inflows from the Goulburn River and Wybong Creek. These flood flows are expected to cause moderate and possibly major flooding to develop at Singleton during Saturday afternoon into Sunday. Moderate flooding is possible at Maitland on Sunday.
River Height Predictions
UPPER HUNTER
River levels along the Kingdon Ponds and Aberdeen have fallen below minor flood levels. Moderate flooding is occurring at Muswellbrook and Denman.
•The Hunter River at Muswellbrook peaked at 9.90 metres around midnight Friday into Saturday and is currently at 8.63 metres and falling, with moderate flooding.
•The Hunter River at Denman is expected to peak near 8.90 metres around 09:00 am Saturday, with moderate flooding
LOWER HUNTER
Moderate and possibly Major flooding is expected at Singleton. Moderate flooding is possible at Maitland.
•The Hunter River at Singleton is expected to exceed the minor flood level (10.00 m) around midday Saturday. The river level is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (11.50 m) early Saturday evening and may reach the major flood level (13.00 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday. Further rises possible.
•The Hunter River at Maitland (Belmore Bridge) is expected to exceed the minor flood level (5.90 m) around 11:00 am Saturday morning on the high tide. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (8.90 m) overnight Sunday into Monday. Further Rises Possible.
What we are expecting:
UPPER HUNTER
At Muswellbrook and surrounding areas:
•New England Highway is closed at the rail overpass at Maitland Bridge Street
•Possible isolation of properties along Wybong and Kayuga roads
•Muswellbrook to Sandy Hollow road may close At Denman and surrounding areas:
•Low lying rural properties and roads will be affected and possible inundation of low-lying rural areas
•Denman Road (Golden Highway) between Muswellbrook and Sandy Creek is closed
•Babbington Street may experience localised flooding
•Flooding starts in and around Ogilvie, Palace Streets, Jerdan Street
•Possible isolation of Denman and possible inundation of low lying properties.

LOWER HUNTER
At Singleton: (Donolly Bridge)
•Bridge over Hunter River near Coolmore Stud (approx. 8kms north west of Jerrys Plains) on Golden Highway is closed – Use alternate route via New England Highway Singleton
•Possible isolation of Whittingham area
•Golden Highway (Mitchell Line of Road) between New England Highway and Range Road is closed
•Bridge over Redmanvale Creek, south east of Jerrys Plains on Golden Highway may be closed
•Road to Jerrys Plains (Golden Highway) will close
•Inundation begins of rural low-lying areas in and around Glennriding, Dunolly, Combo
•East Singleton may be impacted by minor road closures including: Dangar Road, Greenwood Avenue, Whitefalls Lane, Haggarty Lane, Netsfeild Lane, Kanoona Lane, Racecourse Lane

At Maitland: (Belmore Bridge)
•Melville Ford Bridge will be closed
•Stanhope Road will be cut at Kilfoyles Bridge between Luskintyre Road and Lambs Valley Road. Alternate route via Branxton and Stanhope
•Windermere Road at Windermere is cut just past Windermere House

What you need to do:
Denman may be isolated, once the river exceeds 8.23 meters at the Denman gauge, residents should prepare now for possible isolation and inundation of low lying areas.
•Do not drive, ride or walk through flood water
•Farmers on low lying land close to rivers and creeks are urged to monitor livestock, pumps and other equipment. Waste and chemical containers should be located well above predicted flood levels.
•Residents of low lying areas near the river should keep an active watch on the flood waters.
•Keep in contact with your neighbours.
•Consider impacts of possible road closures on work, family and educational commitments.
•Monitoring emergency warnings and severe weather updates on local ABC radio, NSW SES Hunter page and Bureau of Meteorology website.
•If you live in a low-lying area and are advised by an emergency services officer to evacuate, please do so.

DAMAGING, LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL

For people in Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Northern Tablelands and parts of Northern Rivers, South Coast, Southern Tablelands and North West Slopes and Plains Forecast Districts.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MAY BRING DAMAGING, LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS AND HEAVY RAINFALL.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging, locally destructive winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, Newcastle, Gosford, Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Armidale, Goulburn and Tamworth.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Central West Slopes and Plains district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

106km/h wind gust recorded at Dubbo at 7:40pm.

106km/h wind gust recorded at Cobar Airport at 4:59pm.

106km/h wind gust recorded at White Cliffs at 2:49pm.

104km/h wind gust recorded at Nerriga at 20:56

98km/h wind gust recorded at Grafton at 3:44pm.

89km/h wind gust recorded at Wilcannia at 2:25pm.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
* After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 12:15 am Sunday.

If severe thunderstorms develop in Sydney Newcastle Wollongong or surrounding areas, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

The Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) will commence tomorrow (1 September 2020) in 21 local government areas. This means land owners and land managers in these areas must now obtain a free Fire Permit from their local fire authority before lighting any fires, including hazard reduction burns.

Even if you’ve been using fire for many years, safe burning is your responsibility. Contact your local Fire Control Centre to obtain your free Fire Permit and follow its conditions.

Heavy fines apply for the unsafe use of fire or if your fire escapes.
Don’t be the fire risk to your community. Use fire safely.

As per RFS guidelines in the current time, all non essential meetings will be postponed.

Advise will be provided at another time as to dates of our AGM.

Restrictions on activities

To protect the health and safety of our people, the NSW RFS is now restricting a number of activities such as:
Events – non-essential events including medal presentations, attendance at conferences and external events
Activities – non-essential brigade meetings, large gatherings, community engagement events or visits
Training – non-essential internal and external training delivery, or attendance at training events
Non-essential attendance at NSW RFS facilities including brigade stations, fire control centres and Headquarters.

Weather Situation: A low pressure trough across northeast New South Wales combined with very moist air will bring thunderstorms to parts of northeast New South Wales on Friday.
