๐ŸฆŸ Heartworm cases have recently been reported in our surrounding area, itโ€™s a serious disease every dog owner should know about. ๐Ÿถโค๏ธ

Heartworm is caused by a parasitic worm called Dirofilaria immitis spread through mosquito bites. Once infected, the worms travel to the heart and lungs, where they can block blood vessels and reduce oxygen flow around the body. Over time, this can cause severe damage to the heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys, sometimes before any obvious signs appear.

Common symptoms can include:
โ€ข Coughing
โ€ข Breathing changes
โ€ข Lethargy or weakness
โ€ข Reduced exercise tolerance
โ€ข Loss of appetite or weight loss

The good news? Heartworm is preventable
Monthly preventatives or yearly injections are the best way to protect your dog and avoid complicated treatment later on.

We are so sorry to share that a grey, short haired cat has been found deceased on the side of the road in Calypso Bay.

The cat was not wearing a collar and we are unable to locate a microchip.

If you are missing a cat or know someone who is please reach out to us on 07 5515 5935 so we can hopefully provide some closure for the family.
