⚠️ Surgical content warning

Scooby’s come in for surgery to remove a retained testicle. Swipe to see the difference between this & a normal testicle — the retained one is much smaller and underdeveloped, which is makes it at higher risk of disease.

Do you remember our laparoscopic spey post from last week? This isn’t just for speys — there are many other procedures we can perform using this minimally invasive technique.

Sometimes, a testicle doesn’t descend into the sc***um like it should. If it’s stuck in the inguinal region (groin), we can remove it with a small open incision. But if it’s retained inside the abdomen, we use a laparoscopy instead.

For this procedure, we place three trocars/incisions (instead of two like in lap-spey). These tiny ports let us guide a camera and instruments into the abdomen, locate the retained testicle, and remove it safely.

Why is this so important?
🐾 Retained testicles don’t develop normally
🐾They have a much higher risk of becoming cancerous
🐾Castration prevents this risk and protects your dog’s long-term health

Minimally invasive surgery = smaller wounds, faster recovery, and the best outcome for pets like Scooby. 💙🐾

This little cutie was in with us today for a Laparoscopic Spey (keyhole surgery) - one of our surgeons special interest procedures. 🔬🧠

Here we only use one stitch per incision - can you spot the surgery sites? They’re much smaller than the traditional Spey! 🔍

This is perfect for clients who are looking for a minimally invasive option for desexing their pets with a significantly reduced recovery time.

As the weather warms up, snake activity increases- and that means it’s time to be extra cautious with your fur babies.
