The holidays are busy. Your dog still needs calm, structure, and support.

DO
• Keep some routine - Walks, meals, and rest at familiar times help your dog feel secure.
• Provide enrichment while you are busy - Lick mats, snuffle mats, and chew items give your dog a job and reduce stress.
• Create a quiet space - Set up a crate, mat, or room where your dog can rest undisturbed.
• Advocate for your dog - Say no to forced pats, cuddles, or photos.
• Watch body language- Stress signs matter more during busy days.

DON’T
• Don’t expect your dog to cope with everything - Extra people, noise, and change are hard for many dogs.
• Don’t force greetings - Your dog does not need to meet everyone.
• Don’t rely on food alone - Too many treats can lead to over-arousal and upset tummies.
• Don’t skip rest - Overtired dogs struggle to regulate themselves.
• Don’t ignore warning signs - Pacing, panting, hiding, or snapping are communication.

Remember:
A calm dog is not a boring dog. It is a supported one.
Keeping your dog supported during the holidays matters more than keeping them “perfect.”

Save this for the holidays. If your dog struggles during busy periods, send us a message and we can help you plan ahead.

If your young dog can’t switch off, the answer isn’t more exercise. The answer is regulation.

We structure the day for two 5-month-old working dogs and a 12-month-old so they can stay calm, think clearly, and rest.

The routine is simple:
• Mental work first
• Free sniffing in the morning
• One long protected rest block
• Short training later in the day
• Dinner as enrichment
• Predictable wind-down

No chaos. No constant entertainment. Just balanced stimulation and rest.

Signs you need more structure:
• Struggling to settle
• Mouthiness
• Pacing or whining
• Losing known skills
• Over-reactive after play

This approach helps young dogs cope with stimulation, build self-regulation, and stop bouncing off the walls.

Save this post.
Try it for a week.
Your dog will tell you the difference.

If I was adopting a puppy tomorrow, this is what I’d buy.

Not the most expensive things.
Not everything the pet shop tells you that you “need”.
Just the basics that actually support a puppy’s learning, comfort, and wellbeing.

This setup is about:
• helping a puppy settle in calmly
• setting clear, kind boundaries from day one
• making life easier for both of you
• building good habits before problems start

You don’t need a house full of gear.
You need the right tools, used consistently, with realistic expectations.

Every puppy is different.
Your lifestyle matters.
Your capacity matters.

If you’re bringing home a puppy soon and want help choosing what’s right for your dog, send us a message.
We’re always happy to guide you through it.

Scatter feeding is one of the simplest enrichment tools you can use for your dog.

And it is often overlooked.

Instead of putting all your dog’s food in a bowl, you scatter it across the grass, yard, or a safe indoor space and let your dog search for it.

Why this works so well:

• Sniffing lowers heart rate and helps dogs regulate their emotions
• It taps into natural foraging behaviour
• It slows fast eaters without frustration
• It provides mental stimulation without adding physical stress
• It is calming, not arousing

For many dogs, especially sensitive, anxious, reactive, or over-stimulated dogs, scatter feeding can be more effective than toys or high-energy games.

It gives your dog a job without pressure.

A few tips to get started:

• Use it for part or all of a meal
• Start in a low-distraction area
• Scatter wide, not in a pile
• Let your dog work it out without helping
• Watch their body language. You want slow movement, relaxed sniffing, and steady breathing

This is not about making things harder for your dog.

It is about meeting their needs in a way that supports calm behaviour.

If your dog struggles to settle, rushes meals, or seems constantly “on”, this is a great place to start.

Have you tried scatter feeding yet, or is this something new for you?
