The holidays are busy. Your dog still needs calm, structure, and support.
DO
• Keep some routine - Walks, meals, and rest at familiar times help your dog feel secure.
• Provide enrichment while you are busy - Lick mats, snuffle mats, and chew items give your dog a job and reduce stress.
• Create a quiet space - Set up a crate, mat, or room where your dog can rest undisturbed.
• Advocate for your dog - Say no to forced pats, cuddles, or photos.
• Watch body language- Stress signs matter more during busy days.
DON’T
• Don’t expect your dog to cope with everything - Extra people, noise, and change are hard for many dogs.
• Don’t force greetings - Your dog does not need to meet everyone.
• Don’t rely on food alone - Too many treats can lead to over-arousal and upset tummies.
• Don’t skip rest - Overtired dogs struggle to regulate themselves.
• Don’t ignore warning signs - Pacing, panting, hiding, or snapping are communication.
Remember:
A calm dog is not a boring dog. It is a supported one.
Keeping your dog supported during the holidays matters more than keeping them “perfect.”
