Letβs talk all things Haltis! (Part 2)
Handsome Mr Jed here is wearing a halti on his face!
Common misconceptions?
There are some common misconceptions about haltis, one of them is that it is a muzzle. While you can use it to close their mouths, as mentioned above, whilst in a relaxed position, they are still able to eat, drink, pant, bark, etc. Another misconception is that haltis hurt your dogs, whilst in some cases where they have not been fitted correctly or that brand does not sit right on your dogs face this can be true, however if you have your dog properly fitted and are taught how to use them correctly, they should not hurt or cause any injury to your dog.
Are all haltis the same?
Yes and noβ¦ There are many brands of haltis out there however they are all made a little differently. The concept is the same but the way they fit your dog is different. We have used many brands of haltis and our favourite is the Black Dog Haltis. We have found that these sit on most dogβs faces nicely, the strap that goes around the back of the head sits in the correct position and they are extremely durable. My dog Jed has been wearing his same Black Dog Halti for 10 years now and it still looks near brand new!
Halts vs other training tools?
Haltis are one of our favourite training tools, after putting them on dogs and working with them for a small time, you already see an improvement. We have many people come to classes who are stunned at how well they work. They donβt put pressure on sensitive areas such as the throat, which when dogs pull can choke them. They encourage your dog to walk well on lead and prevent you and them being pulled around, hurt and just having a straight up awful time walking them. Whilst this is our favourite tool to use, we do know that haltis do not work on all dogs and do have other training tools on hand to use in these situations.
Have you ever used a halti on your dog and if so, how did you go?
We stock and are trained in fitting haltis so if you are interested in trying one for your dog, please donβt hesitate to reach out!
