It is such a priviledge to be able to say 'goodbye' to the wildlife that comes into care for a second chance to live their life.

We care for wildlife that is ill and injured, but also like the sweet wombie here known as Eddi who was orphaned.

Thankyou Eddi's care team as she leaves Bunurong Wildlife Care to her next/last rehab phase....learning to dig really big burrows before release back to her 'forever home'.

This week we celebrated a day of appreciation for Kangaroos. October 24th. Pictured here is Jinxy roo the youngest Eastern Grey Kangaroo in care this year.

Jinxy was a complex rescue case that sadly required his mum to be kindly euthanised. His mums injuries were likely sustained as she travelled from a gathering mob site that they have called home well before, we have called it home.

People need places to live BUT so does our wildlife. Co existing is possible with more empathy and planning for safe wildlife corridors.

Jinxy's mum likely caught her foot on a top strand newly erected wire (these blend with landscapes). In her situation this likely resulted in an uncontrolled forward tumble fracturing her upper arm.

Given Jinxy's mum was injured within a housing estate the kindest way to manage her care was to have her sedated via a dart. This involves the support for the Wildlife Victoria rescurers with the deployment of a licensed Darter.

Once sedated Jinxy's mum could be assessed and her injuries sadly required her to be euthanised. The joey a very large 'pinkie' with eyes open and ears up was retrieved and a promise to his mum that he would be cared for and released back to his 'forever home' when his rehabilitation milestones are reached.

Please call Wildlife Victoria 03 8400 7300 for wildlife injured, ill or orphaned. They will find us knowing which Rescurers are available and can also call Shelters for care placements.

We wish little Jinxy here a long happy life.

HELP OUR REGIONAL WILDLIFE.

A wildlife sign alerts drivers to slow down, increasing awareness and reducing the risk of wildlife being hit, helping protect local species from road trauma near your property.

These signs are being sold via local businesses & you can visit this website to find out more. https://bunurongwildlifecare.au/signs/

If you are based in Inverloch the Bendigo Bank and Inverloch Animal Doc have stock. If you are in Harmers Haven, Cape Patterson or Wonthaggi the State Coal Mine Cafe conveniently also has stock.

The signs cost $20 each and it is helpful when you are purchasing if you can please have this amount as cash.

A community response is required to make a difference for our wildlife. This last weekend was frankly horrific, with several critically injured species needing sadly euthanasia or critical care....we can and MUST DO BETTER.

Help us to help them please.

Please report any injured, ill or orphaned wildlife to Wildlife Victoria 03 8400 7300.
