Those tucked toes, that hidden tail; this is what a lot of people call the “Loaf” position which cats often display 🍞

Have you ever wondered why your beloved feline is suddenly sitting in such a whimsical and adorable manner!? 🤔

Well the classic “kitty bread” shape serves several important functions;

🍔 Heat conservation: cats have a higher core temperature than humans and lose heat quickly through their paw pads and extremities. Tucking their paws and tail close to their chest minimises exposed surface area to retain warmth.

🥖 Safety and relaxation; Tucking their claws away means your cat is not on high alert, showing absolute contentment and trust

🥯 Energy management; this position acts as a “Zen” mode or light rest. While it isn’t deep sleep, it allows muscles to relax while still being in a launch ready position should they need to spring into action.

🥪 Instinctual protection; tucking their soft underbelly and limbs protects vital organs from potential threats.

While loafing can appear cute and harmless, sudden changes in behaviour, excessive lethargy or inability to posture comfortably could be signs of an underlying problem…please seek veterinary advice in this instance!
