Over the weekend, members of our NT SAR K9 team, Fletcher and K9 Zuko, and Kayleigh and K9 Woody, participated in their annual Live Find recertification, which they successfully completed. Following this, Kayleigh and K9 Woody passed their first HRD certification assessment.

The Northern Territory's unpredictable environment posed challenges during the assessment; but thanks to the amount of work will do preparing our dogs for the unexpected, K9 Woody took it all in his stride.

I am delighted to announce the addition of a second operational HRD team to the territory.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all volunteers, external assessor Mark, and my team, whose tireless efforts, dedication, and commitment to excellence are a source of immense pride.

Final prep work is underway for our Operational Readiness Test tomorrow for 2 of our Live find Search and Rescue K9 teams from NT SAR.

This test is designed to assess our K9 teams in an operational deployed environment and ensure both handler and dog are operating at the highest of standards. Our volunteer team provide this critical capability to all areas of the Northern Territory.

Our Volunteer SAR K9 teams returned home yesterday after a very long, difficult week.

Thank you to all those that supported us in the background back home and on the ground.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and the community of Alice Springs.

Update: our teams are continuing to clear assigned areas and adhoc taskings. It is extremely difficult terrain fo both the handlers and the dogs.

🐾🐕 Our K9 SAR team has been requested to assist in a search in Alice Springs. We currently have teams in route to the location.

This morning our mantrailing crew hit the esplanade for some combination soft/hard surface trails while taking in the spectacular views of Darwin harbour. All the teams did such a great job.

The rural area and Darwin has now been included in the severe weather warning. There is a chance that properties that were flooded two weeks ago may once again be inundated with water and crossings may be affected.

These conditions may also develop about the DARWIN area from late this evening into Monday morning. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 80 and 120 mm are likely. 24-hourly rainfall totals between 180 to 230 mm are likely.

Lia Finocchiaro MLA: "If we see flash flooding it could include the Darwin rural area, again, we know parts of Humpty Doo for example and Darwin River experienced flash flooding,"

"Anyone who has seen water levels rise or been inundated you must remain vigilant, this could impact you again."

Beautiful one moment ☀️pouring rain the next 🌧️ Wet Season Mantrailing This morning our teams trailed down near the esplanade. Braving the rain and the stairs for some pawesome performances by dogs and handlers. Well done to all 👍🐾
