Last hatch of the season and what a way to finish 🐣✨

Out of 90 guinea eggs set on 15 March, only 12 were infertile, giving us an 86.7% fertility rate, which we’re thrilled with.

So far, 49 keets have hatched since yesterday afternoon and overnight, with a few more still pipping and due to arrive. That’s a current hatch rate of 62.8% from fertile eggs, which for this late in the season, we’re really happy with.

To top it off, two extra special little surprises joined us:
🩶 our third silver ever (and third silver this season)
🤎our very first cinnamon hatch of the season, and in our final hatch too!

Overall, it’s been such a successful season. We did have some losses this year, mostly to foxes and a few hens making questionable choices crossing the road to nest near the neighbour’s place. Frustrating to say the least, but that’s part of keeping free-ranging birds.

🐣 Hoppy Easter!! Coloured pen update ✨

The coloured pen build is about 2/3 complete 🙌

The pen itself is fully secure and the perch is in, now it’s just the roof to assemble and enclose and we’re there 👏

For those who’ve been following along for a while, we’ve always bred from the red-eye genetics within our flock, but this is the next step… a dedicated coloured pen project 🤎🩶✨

We’ve now bred and acquired some beautiful lines to work with:
silver, periwinkle, cinnamon & peach.

I’m honestly so excited to be building this properly and seeing where it goes, especially knowing how many of you have been interested in red-eye birds over the years.

If all goes to plan, we’re aiming to supply red-eye birds across Southeast Queensland next season 🐣

Late season Guinea eggs 🥚 🥚

I thought we were done but I’m getting 10-12 a day at 86% fertility. I have a couple dozen available, thirty five a dozen.

All colours with the chance of red eyes too, I’ve hatched quite a few this season, mostly peach but silver and platinum too.
