Hugs and Kisses Dog Grooming continues to groom at this time with several measures in place to assure your safety. I will meet all clients wearing a face mask and gloves. All clients on arrival will be asked to remove their own dog’s collar, harness and lead. After every groom, all tools and surfaces within the salon will be cleaned with veterinary strength disinfectant. Hand sanitiser is available in the salon. Clients appointments are staggered so there is never more than one client in the salon at a time. Please try to be on time. If you are experiencing any flu like symptoms, please reschedule your appointment.

I have spent days this year attending grooming seminars and training with master groomers. These pics are from some of those days. I love that there is always a new product to use, always a different technique to try. Maybe my clients won't notice how my changed drying technique results in a smoother, fluffier coat or that my sc******ng skills give feet a neater, cuter appearance ...... but maybe they will ;) Hope to see you soon.

One of my favourite clients, such a sweet little Pomeranian lady. Did you know Pomeranians come in 23 different colour combinations, Mozart, Michelangelo and Queen Victoria all owned Pomeranians and that only three dogs survived the sinking of the Titanic, two of those were Pomeranians. For a sweet loving intelligent little dog, its hard to think of one better :)

As the cooler weather arrives, it is also the season for doggy jumpers and owners wanting to keep their pups coats longer to keep warm. Both of these circumstances can result in matting of the coat. A routine of regular brushing keeps your pup tangle free and familiar with being brushed. Knots and matting is painful as skin can be pulled. Also areas of knots and matting can be a haven for bacteria as moisture is trapped near the skin.
As a groomer, when dogs present with matts or knots, it is a very tricky task that takes a lot of care and precision to avoid nipping or cutting dogs skin. Removing matting that is attached to skin is dangerous, yet can be easily avoided.
As this pic shows, a coat can look normal to an untrained eye but an absence of regular grooming routine means the pup is actually encased in matted coat.
Most importantly, spending time with your pup grooming them is just another way of saying "I love you".
