🐱 A Friendly Reminder for Our Cat Owners 🐱

For the safety and comfort of all our feline patients, we kindly ask that cats arrive at the clinic in a secure carrier — with only one cat per carrier please. ❤️

Even if your cat is calm and happy to sit in your arms at home, the clinic can be a very different environment. There may be dogs nearby, unfamiliar smells, noises, and other stressed pets that can make even the sweetest cats feel anxious or frightened.

We’ve also seen bonded cats become upset and even fight with each other when sharing a carrier in reception. While they may be the best of friends at home, the stress of an unfamiliar environment can make tensions run high.

Using separate carriers helps keep everyone safer, calmer, and more comfortable during their visit. Thank you for helping us care for your furry family members 🐾

Bruno came in lookin’ like the cowboy of the outback 🤠🐾

This snazzy little cowboy stopped by for a heart health check with Dr Alanna, and we’re happy to report he was the goodest patient in town! ❤️

We absolutely loved seeing Bruno strut through the clinic in his cowboy outfit — he definitely brought smiles to everyone’s faces. Thanks for visiting us, Bruno! 🌟

⚠️ Foreign Body Alert in Cats ⚠️

This is metres of string we surgically removed from a cat’s intestines after it swallowed a linear foreign body. 🧵🐱

String, ribbon, wool, hair ties, and similar items can be extremely dangerous for cats. Unlike some foreign objects, linear foreign bodies can saw through the intestines as the gut tries to move them along, causing severe damage and becoming life-threatening very quickly.

🚨 Signs of a possible foreign body include:
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea
• Loss of appetite / not eating
• Lethargy or hiding
• Abdominal pain
• Changes in appearance or behaviour

If you suspect your pet has swallowed something they shouldn’t. Give us a call on 46308399 if you have questions or concerns.

Early treatment can save lives.

💙A reminder to keep string-like objects safely out of reach of curious cats! 💙

🐱 Why Vaccinating Your Cat Matters: Understanding F3 & FIV Vaccines 💉

Keeping your cat healthy isn’t just about food and cuddles — vaccinations play a big role in protecting them from serious diseases. Two of the most important vaccines for cats are the F3 and FIV vaccines.

What is the F3 vaccine?
The F3 vaccine protects cats against three highly contagious viral diseases:

• Feline Panleukopenia (FPV) – A severe and often fatal virus that attacks a cat’s immune system and gut.
• Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1) – A common cause of upper respiratory infections, leading to sneezing, eye discharge and lifelong flare-ups.
• Feline Calicivirus (FCV) – Another respiratory virus that can cause mouth ulcers, fever and breathing issues.

These viruses spread easily between cats, especially in shared environments like multi-cat households, boarding facilities, and shelters. Even indoor cats can be at risk because these viruses can be carried inside on clothing or shoes.

What is the FIV vaccine?
The FIV vaccine protects against Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, often called the “cat AIDS” virus. FIV weakens a cat’s immune system over time, making them more vulnerable to infections and illness.

FIV is mainly spread through deep bite wounds, which means cats that roam outdoors or get into fights are at higher risk.

Why vaccination is important:
✔ Helps prevent serious, sometimes fatal diseases
✔ Reduces the spread of viruses between cats
✔ Protects cats that go outdoors or interact with other cats
✔ Is far safer and more affordable than treating preventable diseases

Every cat has a different lifestyle, so the best vaccination schedule can vary. Our team is always happy to help you decide what’s right for your cat.

📞 If you’re unsure whether your cat is up to date with their vaccinations, give us a call on 46308399 - we’re here to help keep your feline family members safe and healthy! 🐾

🐶 What do dog vaccinations actually do?💉

Vaccinating your dog is one of the simplest ways to protect them from serious, and sometimes life-threatening, diseases. But what do those vaccines actually cover? Here’s a quick breakdown of the most common dog vaccinations used in Australia.

🐾 C3 Vaccination
The C3 vaccine is considered the core puppy vaccination and protects against three highly contagious and dangerous diseases:

• Parvovirus – A severe virus that attacks the gut, causing vomiting, diarrhoea, dehydration and can be fatal, especially in puppies.
• Distemper – A serious viral disease that affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal and nervous systems.
• Hepatitis (Canine Adenovirus) – A viral infection that affects the liver and can cause fever, abdominal pain, and organ damage.

Puppies typically receive a series of C3 vaccinations early in life to help build strong immunity while their immune system is still developing.

🐾 C5 Vaccination
For many dogs, vets recommend the C5 vaccination, which includes protection against the three core diseases above plus kennel cough.

Kennel cough isn’t just found in kennels – it spreads anywhere dogs interact, such as parks, grooming salons, daycare, and training classes. It can cause a persistent cough, lethargy, and respiratory irritation.

💉 Why vaccinate?
Vaccines work by training your dog’s immune system to recognise and fight specific viruses and bacteria before they can cause serious illness.

Keeping vaccinations up to date helps protect not only your own dog, but also the wider dog community.

If you’re unsure what vaccinations your dog needs, our team is always happy to help. 🐕💙
