Grateful to my recent puppy buyers who’ve all made contact to let me know how incredibly well their new puppies are going: Sleeping through the night in their crates, no crying/whining, waiting to go outside for their toileting then going ‘on command,’ and generally being super chilled-out, happy, affectionate, easy, sweet, people-pleasing puppies 😇
I’m so proud of my puppers and miss them deeply, it’s hard to say goodbye as I become quite attached and fall in love with each individual puppy, which is not hard because they’re so easy to love ❤️
The saving grace for me is seeing how truly loved and cared for they are by their new families. I remember each and every one of my puppies from all my litters - a little piece of my heart goes with them on their departure. I wish I could keep them all but feel blessed to have loved them for a short time ❤️
I’d love it if all puppy buyers would do a bit of research into ethical dog breeders before purchasing a puppy. Here are some suggestions about what to ask when choosing a breeder -
1. Does the breeder allow you to visit the pups and adult dogs in person? Be wary if they don’t allow this.
2. Does the breeder provide results for genetic and health testing done on the parent dogs?
3. Check whether the majority of their litters appears social and confident.
4. How long has the breeder been breeding dogs and how many litters have they had? Experience is key.
5. Are the puppies raised inside the breeder’s home from birth? You don’t want a puppy who has been raised separate to a regular family environment, eg. in a shed or outside.
6. What were the Breeder’s goals for this litter?
7. At what age do they start breeding their mother dogs and how many litters does she have? She shouldn’t be bred prior to age two and shouldn’t have any more than four litters.
8. Will the breeder stay in touch and offer assistance when needed, as the puppy matures?
9. How does the breeder make sure the puppies are well-socialised with good temperaments?
10. Can the breeder provide references from previous buyers?
It’s worth the effort and time to ask these questions as it will influence the dog you have for the next 12-15 years!
