I get a lot of comments saying cats “look scared” in some of my grooming photos, but cats don’t really do facial expressions like people or dogs do. A relaxed cat can still look grumpy or serious in a photo, especially when it’s just a quick snapshot, and especially Maine c***s, they’re known for their resting bitch face.

What photos don’t show is the purring, head butts, smooches, leaning into pats and all the little things they do when they’re actually enjoying themselves.

A lot of cats actually really enjoy the one on one attention during their groom. For 60-90 minutes they’ve got someone brushing them, patting them, talking to them and focusing completely on them. Honestly where else do most cats get that much undivided attention? 😂

Does every cat love every single second of grooming? Of course not, cats are dramatic little creatures sometimes 😂 but this gorgeous boy was absolutely loving the attention after his groom.

It’s just so satisfying to shrink a cat in size by removing a heap of undercoat. 😍 despite the grumpy look on her face, she was feeling a million dollars and purring her head off!

Love a good glow up!

I want to say something because it honestly broke me yesterday and I can’t stop replaying it in my head. 😭💔

Cats grieve.

Recently, one of my beautiful customers passed away, and yesterday I groomed her cat. Her cat normally sits up on my table, alert, taking everything in, full of personality, she really is such a sweet older cat.

Yesterday she just laid there. Flat. Quiet. Completely withdrawn. Complete sadness in her eyes.

This wasn’t her being difficult or stressed from grooming.
This was pure grief.

Some people think cats don’t have feelings like that, but they definitely do. They get attached to their person, their routine, their whole little world. And when that suddenly changes, it affects them more than people realise.

Seeing her like that absolutely broke my heart. I cried so much during her groom, and gave her so many cuddles.

If you ever have a cat going through a loss, just be patient with them. Give them love, keep things as normal as you can, and let them process it in their own way.

And if you’ve ever lost a pet, just know that you meant everything to them too 💔
