I brought home my new puppy just one week ago, and we’ve already been busy safely introducing him to the world! ✨

Early socialisation is so important for building confidence, but it needs to be done with care, especially before that all-important second vaccination, when puppies are still at risk of illnesses like Parvo.

Here’s what we’ve been doing:
✅ Letting him explore in a variety of low-risk areas such as my husband’s office which is pet-free, and at my daycare where every dog is fully vaccinated, (note we don't take client puppies before 12 weeks)

✅ Setting up positive interactions with calm, social dogs and friendly people, always with rules to keep things safe (no picking him up, grabbing him and such but I hand out treats so he learns people = good things). You can also insit people use hand sanitiser for extra safety.

✅ Using a trolley with a blanket from home at higher-risk places, secured with a dog car tether so he’s safe and comfortable (no flying puppies here!)

✅ Lots of world watching, puzzle feeding, training, threshold games, and basic obedience, throughout the day. My treat pouch is always on me and loaded with his food so we can feed through activities not a food bowl.

Early exposure doesn’t mean throwing your pup into everything all at once, it’s about controlled, positive, bite-sized experiences that set them up for success.

💡 And just a note: if you choose to wait until 10–12 weeks, or dont have the time for constant training and exposure l, that’s okay too! Every puppy parent has their own priorities and ways of raising their pup sometimes less is more. 💕

The key is doing what works for you and your puppy, while keeping them safe and happy.

So many of my amazing clients will know my boy Tuesday who has always challenged me with his allergies and general health.
